Hi   I am running Affinity Photo on a Mac , version 1.6.7   Is there an update available, as I don;t seem to get update info?   I am having problems with the inpainting brush - it doesn;t want to work.   Should I download and re-install the software, if so, what do I need to do please?

Many thanks in advance

Version 1.6.7 is the latest Mac App Store version of Affinity Photo.

If the Inpainting Brush Tool isn’t working, go to the Layers panel and check that you have a Pixel layer selected. If the current layer is designated as ‘Image’ instead of ‘Pixel’, you’ll need to right-click it and choose the ‘Rasterize’ option so that you can work on it at the pixel level.

And be sure that your brush setting is for the basic round brush!  I recently — don’t know how I managed it — very stupidly had a different setting for a wimpy brush that made horrid little pale pink inpainting attempts.   Took me awhile before I had the brains to figure this out.  Also, after adding your new layer above the image layer to start your inpainting, be sure to check on the Context Toolbar for Current Layer and Below.   Another thing everybody but I already knew!

I should have noted your post, rather than Alfred’s.  Missing brains.

Alternatively, just inpaint directly on the (rasterized) image layer. But in general I do prefer the non-destructive option.

Thank you Alfred and jmwellborn   Yes definitely pay attention to contextual tools - I had opacity set to less than 10%, all fine now!   What a nice helpful bunch of people Affinity users are, (speaking as an ex-Photoshop user).   Is the Collie in your avatar your dog jmwelborne? - stunning dog!   Thanks gentlemen

That dog is indeed lovely, but I’m not sure I would describe Jennifer Wellborn as a gentleman! ;)

She was an Australian Shepherd.   We have shared our lives with many breeds, but she and an Airedale, and the current Lakeland Terrier were/are our very best.  She was incredibly intelligent and full of fun, and it was a pure joy to be one of her sheep.
