willryan042 Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 For example, I create a new doc in AD on my iPad. It's named Untitled1 (or 2, 3, etc) by default. I rename it to "Super Awesome Sketch." This name is reflected in the app but if I look on iCloud drive, the name is still Untitled1. I don't know if this is some kind of Apple-enforced restriction where AD can only save to iCloud but not rename files, but it'd be great if the iCloud doc reflected the document name you see in AD. DM1 Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 Hi @willryan042 Sounds like you need to Save back to iCloud. iOS is a little different to other OSes but you can save the proper file name. What you are seeing on iCloud is the original document saved as untitled. AD also has a 'working' copy in its sandbox. If you open the document and use Document Menu/Save a Copy you can specify a name, select a location (iCloud) and add to store it. Now close the document, exit to Project screen and close the document residing on Project screen using 3 bars menu/Close. Now tap + sign and tap Open from Cloud. Navigate to iCloud and tap the recently saved and renamed file to open it. In the Document menu you will now see a Save option (above Save A Copy). Any edits you make will be saved back to iCloud doc when you use this Save menu option. Hope this makes sense. Paul Mudditt 1 Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen). Now the file in the sandbox will overwrite the copy in the files app when you press save. DM1 Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 Yes there appears to be an issue currently with renaming a file. Saving a renamed file is not updating the source file neither is it adding a new copy to the default folder. Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen). Cojo Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 The way DM1 described it works. But its more like a workaround. Name changes via "rename file" don't work as desired yet, cause it has no effect on the stored file in the file.app. This is especially important when, for example, several versions of a file have to be edited and safed. It probably seems to be a bug. Anyway, a big thank to everyone for your attention and replies. Quote
Mbuettell Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 If you open a file from iCloud in AFD and then delete the file in iCloud while the file is still residing in the AFD sandbox. Then rename in AFD then hit save in iCloud again. It will now be in iCloud with updated name DM1 and Alfred 2 Quote
