The options for PDF versions when exporting seem to be a bit limited in their "up-to-dateness". Below are the current specs for one of the most popular digial print companies in Germany. In PagePlus I already had problems with the X format generating PDF 1.4, but was able to simply choose PDF 1.3 and set the other relevant parameters in the document. In Affinity  Publisher the X-format and PDF version can be set separately, but the "lowest" version of PDF available is 1.4; I'm sure there is a combination that will work, but the product shouldn't be too advanced in the options as you can see a big and popular online printer is not so advanced!

Druckdaten FAQ

Was beinhaltet der PDF/X-3:2002 Standard?

Allgemeine Anforderungen an druckfähige PDF-Dateien:

  • PDF-Version 1.3
Kennwortschutz)
  • keine OPI-Kommentare
  • keine Transferkurven

Zudem sollten Sie folgende Punkte beachten:

  • Schriften immer in Pfade konvertieren
  • PDF-Dateien in Ansichtsprogrammen (zum Beispiel Acrobat Reader) nicht drehen
  • Korrekturen der Seitenausrichtung im Layout- bzw. Erstellungsprogramm vornehmen

Hi Len Killick and Welcome to the Forums,

I don't what the chances are of getting lower than 1.4 but i've moved this post to the Publisher Feature Requests section of the Forums as it has a better chance of being seen by the Dev team and getting a comment from them.  I'll also point this out to the QA team and see i can get comment from them :)

@stokerg

Did you get feedback on that?

My printer also wants PDF 1.3 for some reason.
