wilkinson.bj
In Preferences/General, I cannot reset language. The field is grayed out. In Preferences/Auto-Correct, another language may be chosen, but it is not persistent. It reverts to English UK, perhaps because the default in the General Preferences cannot be reset
walt.farrell
Publisher is still shipping only English (UK) as its UI language, so you can't change it to anything else in Preferences. I'm not sure that the Auto-Correct setting is a problem. The Auto-Correct settings that will actually be used are determined by the language that you specify in the Character panel when entering text into a Text Frame. So all you're seeing is the default set that are being displayed in the Preferences, and not anything that affects subsequent operation of the program when you're entering text. -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. wilkinson.bj
Thank you for your response, Walt. I understand, now, that the General language option can't be changed until a future update. My concern with the Auto-Correct setting that can be changed but reverts as soon as Preferences is closed, is that I would expect it to set some standard spelling conventions between, for instance, English UK and English US -- colour vs. color, to name one of many. My guess is that the language setting exists in Auto-Correct Preferences for this reason. That said, at this point of the beta process, I imagine there are much bigger issues to address; that this one will be addressed in due time, and I've found the progress through the beta releases to be satisfying. Thanks again for the considered reply. walt.farrell

It affects only the language you specify, so if there is some common typo between UK and US English that you want to add to the auto-correct settings, and you use both languages, then you would need to add it to both. It is possible to set up per-language auto-correct lists, but all you are doing in Preferences is choosing which list you are editing. The list actually used is then determined by the spelling language in use when you enter text. I'm told that the User Interface localisation is progressing well and it may not be too long now before it is available.
