Colour Management Policy - Soft Proofing

Recommended Posts

Hallo,  I am not actually sure if this is a 4 legged bug, but I  was going through the  soft proofing dialogue and noticed an absence of generic profiles that are always automatically added say for example in adobe creative suite packages.  Namely those that come from a printer that you have installed.  Since I need to have custom ICC profiles made I was wondering about two things:

1.  Is there a reason why generic ICC profiles have not been picked up by affinity from my installed printer, and

2.  Would affinity publisher automatically recognise custom made ICC profiles when I install them ?  My "machine! is an 'orrible windows 10 all up to date, in case that is relevant?

Thanking you for your hard work by the way.

Chris

Microsoft - Like entering your home and opening the stainless steel kitchen door, with a Popup: 'Do you really want to open this door'? Then looking for the dishwasher and finding it stored in the living room where you have to download a water supply from the app store, then you have to buy microsoft compliant soap, remove the carpet only to be told that it is glued to the floor.. Don't forget to make multiple copies of your front door key and post them to all who demand access to all the doors inside your home including the windows and outside shed.

Apple - Like entering your home and opening the oak framed Kitchen door and finding the dishwasher right in front you ready to be switched on, soap supplied, and water that comes through a water softener.  Ah the front door key is yours and it only needs to open the front door.

Hi @Chris26 ,

Can you see the ICC profile in other apps? Have you checked your ICC profile folder and check if it's there? That should be

  •  C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color

or

  • C:\Program Files\Affinity\Publisher Public Beta\Resources\icc\

We would automatically detect any ICC installed in any of the above locations.

Thanks,

Gabe.

Hallo Gabriel,

I might be misunderstanding the setup in affinity, but I have enclosed screen shots :  When I come to print, I am looking for soft proofing on particular paper, but in this instance I am looking for how the generc Laser printer colour space will approximate.  Affinity's soft proof drop down has recognised my screen calibration .  But I have just realised that Laser Printer driver installed profiles for their different papers are not actual ICC profiles in the same way that my epson pigment ink printer used to be, its generic papers came with ICC profiles specific to that inkjet and its epson paper and I could proof them.  The HP laser simply does not have this.  So good that I get custom profiles for the laser paper then.  Hope have not wasted your time on this one, sorry.

That's correct. If your printer does not come with ICC profiles, I'm afraid we cannot "emulate" it. We only rely on the already existant ICC. If you find the ICC elsewhere, you can install it and you should be able to soft-proof it that way.
