Sebitoma Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 Hi guys, I am using Affinity photo (build 1.6.5.61) on iPad Pro 12.9 2017 version with iOs 11. 2.1. Thei is a purchased version of the Affinity, not a trial. I have managed to add a raw file from the Nikon D850 into Photos app and imported the file from there into Affiniy. The probelm I have, is that the file is completely black. Affinity does not recognize the file or somethig strange is happening. Upon import, I can see the title reading RAW with the details of the file, but the screen is black. I have added a screenshot of what I see on my screen. Any ideas why this might be? Cheers, Sebastian Quote Best regards, Sebastian (iPad Pro 12.9"/iMac 27"/Nikon D850/Leica M9)
Staff MEB Posted January 28, 2018 Staff Posted January 28, 2018 Hi Sebastian, Welcome to Affinity Forums Make sure you have your camera set to use the Nikon RAW L format. This is the only format supported by the Apple (Core Image RAW) engine on iOS 11 used by Affinity Photo. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
Sebitoma Posted January 29, 2018 Author Posted January 29, 2018 Thank you MEB. I will check the settings and post here if the problem persists. Cheers, Sebastian Quote Best regards, Sebastian (iPad Pro 12.9"/iMac 27"/Nikon D850/Leica M9)

Are you using the 'SD card to Lightning' import adapter to get them directly on your iPad in the iOS Photo's app? Do you use the 'USB-3 camera connect to Lightning' adapter? Or do you add them to a cloud-based storage (i.e. Dropbox) and import them into Affinity from there? Are you able to see and access the RAW images in iOS Photo's on your iPad, outside Affinity I mean? Best regards, Gerard (Nikon D800) Quote
Sebitoma Posted February 8, 2018 Author Posted February 8, 2018 Hello Gerard, I use the icloud drive from Apple. Here’s the process: down;oad the files to my mac. From there, I upload them to iclod drive. Once that is done, I open Affinity and import from cloud. Regarding Photos app on the mac, I don’t think it is able to recognize the Raw files at all. It can see the jpegs, but the Raw? Cheers, Sebastian Quote Best regards, Sebastian (iPad Pro 12.9"/iMac 27"/Nikon D850/Leica M9)
Staff MEB Posted February 8, 2018 Staff Posted February 8, 2018 Hi Sebitoma, Can you please upload one of the RAW files (set to use the Nikon RAW L format) using this link so we can take a look please? [EDIT] I already got a couple images in this format. Checking on iPad. Thanks. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software

It can see the jpegs, but the Raw? I'm not sure about the RAW files from a D850. However RAW files from my D800 are recognized and shown by the Photos app on my iPad (version 11.12.5), indicating a little square with RAW in it. And in the Photos app on my Mac (macOS High Sierra, version 10.13.3), where the (i) gives information that it's a RAW file. Quote
DM1 Posted February 9, 2018 Posted February 9, 2018 I can confirm that a D850 raw files downloaded a few mins ago would not open on iPad using rel candidate 1. The file tested can be opened in Snapseed. Quote M1 IPad Air 10.9/256GB lpadOS 17.1.1 Apple Pencil (2nd gen). Sebitoma Posted February 9, 2018 Author Posted February 9, 2018 Gerard, I found a way to work on the Raw L files in Photos. Here’s how: after import, select a picture then press Enter to gomintomEdit mode. From there, choose Image and then choose Use Raw as origiaml or something like that. Depending on the file size (the Raw L from D850 are over 90mb each) it may take about 30 seconds to make the switch. From there you’re good to go. Sebitoma Posted February 9, 2018 Author Posted February 9, 2018 Hi Meb, I also uploaded a file last night to dropbox. You can use it if you wish. Let us know please. Cheers, Sebastian Quote Best regards, Sebastian (iPad Pro 12.9"/iMac 27"/Nikon D850/Leica M9)
Staff MEB Posted February 9, 2018 Staff Posted February 9, 2018 Hi Sebitoma, Are you able to to see these RAW's inside Apple Photos? Although this format appears as compatible in Apple's list (RAW L only) I'm also having trouble to see them on my iPad in Apple Photos. If so seems like an Apple (Core Image RAW) engine issue.
