Staff Callum Posted January 26, 2018 Staff Posted January 26, 2018 Hi Mcbrucer, Welcome to the forums This is certainly an odd issue! Does the window disappear without any input from you? Please could you try opening the app with the CTRL key held down and when the reset menu appears click Select All then Clear to see if this solves your issue? Thanks Callum Quote Please tag me using @ in your reply so I can be sure to respond ASAP.
R C-R Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 It might help to know if this happens with Affinity Photo or Affinity Designer (or both if you have them), if you are using the retail, trial, or beta version(s), & if any other app(s) do anything similar. Also possibly relevant: • What OS X or macOS version are you using? • Did the change occur after you updated/upgraded the OS or anything else? • Do you run any third party add-ons that might affect the save, save as, or export functions of the OS, or anything like that? mcbrucer Posted January 29, 2018 Author Posted January 29, 2018 So, it turns out that this affects any finder operation, opens saves etc etc all pop open a finder window which then disappears immediately before you can do anything... I'm running osx 10.13.3 and affinity photo 1.6.6 - this is a bought version - running no add-ons at all... Any advice you can provide would be appreciated Quote
mcbrucer Posted January 31, 2018 Author Posted January 31, 2018 OK, so I think I got to the bottom of this one and it wasnt strictly Affinity related. I have a touch bar MBP and I disabled it using "Touch Bar Disabler". It seems that while the touch bar is disabled, I have this problem with finder. Turn it back on and it works as it should. If only apple would provide a means to disable the escape key on the Touch Bar !! Anyway, I hope this helps others with the same issues (if there are any) Callum 1 Quote
v_kyr Posted January 31, 2018 Posted January 31, 2018 Hmm the Esc key is generally also used in Affinity products for aborting things, as in a bunch of other software too. How can you live without that, or did you mapped it's behavior onto some other real key here instead? I wonder for example if programmers, which do and would need certain keys like Esc (also as a modifier key together with other keys) etc. would feel lost here with a touch bar, or if it doesn't make much difference in overall usage in contrast to real keys instead? mcbrucer Posted February 4, 2018 Author Posted February 4, 2018 I mapped my esc key to another - OSX will let you do this out-of-the-box IMO the Touch Bar is a pain in the backside. Mostly, its just annoying but I find that when I'm typing on the keyboard that my left pinky often hits the esc key on the Touch Bar and undoes whatever is it I'm doing. If it were a physical key, my pinky might touch it now and again but not enough to press it. With the Touch Bar however, that slight touch is all it needs... Quote

That's what I would probably then have problems too with, since one is normally used to a correctly felt keycap with at least some pressure here. Also have to see what heavy Emacs and Vi users have to tell here, so if a MBP touchbar is manageable and of any value at all for them, or if they have regretted not to have better choosen a model with plain keys instead.
