Rodney47 Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 I have the iPad and the Mac version of Affinity Photo. When I open a RAW file from Photos on the iPad the file is clearly marked as a RAW file. When I open the same file on the Mac, the file is marked as an RGB. When I open a RAW tutorial file from Serif on my Mac it is clearly marked as RAW. When I access Photos (Apple) through Affinity Photos on my iPad, the RAW files are marked as such. When I access Photos (Apple) through Affinity Photo on my Mac, none of the files are marked as RAW or JPEG. Am I doing something wrong (aside from using Apple Photos)? Is there a way to differentiate file types when opening in Affinity Photo for Mac? Quote
R C-R Posted January 15, 2018 Posted January 15, 2018 I am not sure what you mean by "marked" but RAW format files always open in the desktop version of Affinity Photo in the Develop Persona, since they must be 'developed' before they can be used. I don't know how the iPad version works because I do not have a supported iPad, but I assume it is similar. As for the Apple Photos app, refer to the Apple Photos help topic Use a RAW file as the original, which explains how to use the RAW rather than the default JPEG version of photos from cameras that save both. Staff MEB Posted January 15, 2018 Staff Posted January 15, 2018 Hi Rodney47, Welcome to Affinity Forums On your Mac photos that you have shot as RAW+JPG will have a small icon on the top right corner indicating which one is being displayed - "J" for JPG and "R" for RAW. See below: Double-click the thumbnail to see the image it in fullscreen, then click the Edit Photo button (the sliders icon) on the top-right of the interface - the window becomes dark and in this case you will see a small JPG icon on the title of the window on the centre (or RAW depending on what is being displayed in the thumbnail) . If you go to the extensions at this point and select Edit in Affinity Photo, the JPG will be sent for editing in Affinity Photo. If you prefer to sent the RAW instead, right-click the image while in the dark interface and select Use RAW as original - if you go to the extension at this point the RAW will be sent to Affinity Photo instead. Rodney47 Posted January 15, 2018 Author Posted January 15, 2018 RC-R, MEB Thank you both for your replies. What I meant by "marked" is that the context tool bar in Affinity Photo shows the file as RAW or RGB, etc. I was shooting my photos in RAW+JPEG. I guess since Apple Photos displays the JPEG first, whenever I tried to open a file in Affinity Photos, I was getting the JPEG. I tried MEB's suggestion for loading the RAW file and that worked great. I would prefer to be able to open the RAW files directly from Affinity. So, I guess I'll have to figure a way to separate the RAW from the JPEG before I upload them to Apple Photos. Apple Photos seems a little combersome to me. I'd prefer to avoid Adobe products because I don't like subscriptions. Hopefully Affinity or someone will come out with a file management system. Again, thank you both for the help Quote
