formula
Interested in using Photo but would really rather not have to do it through an Apple Mac Store account. Apple does not need to be involved in this in any way so what other methods are available for purchase? IanSG and VIPStephan

R C-R
Apple needs to be involved in part because they, not Serif, are responsible for distributing updates for all apps sold through the Mac App Store, including the Mac versions of the Affinity apps. The Mac OS includes built-in anti-piracy & anti-malware protections for all software distributed through the MAS. If Serif distributed the Mac versions outside the Mac Store, they would have to build a different version with some alternate form of anti-piracy protection & distribute them from their own servers instead of using Apple's global server network.
