Does AD use up memory and then stop working?

Recommended Posts

After working intensely in a 300+ mg AD doc, certain AD functions no longer work. Quitting AD and bringing it up again solves the problem, and AD always remembers what I had just done (bravo!). I'm working with a MacPro with 24g of RAM with nothing else up except Mail. Does AD only access a limited amount of memory? Is the problem that its Undo remembers everything I've done in the session since I am manipulating many layers with hundreds of object? It may simply be a Mac memory problem. No big problem. Just wondering what the cause might be.

Hi Jim Monson,

While its hard to say exactly what the cause might be you could try changing the settings you have for the Performance tab of your Preferences. Particularly the first slider for RAM usage.

Please let me know if this changes anything.

Jim, this may sound crazy but I have found the same problem and limiting the undo limit to about 250 seems to alleviate the issue.  I find 250 is more than enough undo's.  Let me know if it seems to help your issue.

Thanks to you both. My RAM was at 24g (my limit) but I had not noticed that my undos were in the thousands, totally unnecessary. I've lowered them to 250 and that should help. I'll try to remember to let you know, although when something is working I tend to forget....

The AD blog is a tremendous help. Much appreciated!
