arfo62
Hi everybody, hope this is the right place to write. I'm a non professional photographer and I'm trying to understand something more about photo editing, using a canon eos 600D; my question is: could some expert user explain the differences between the two softwares (and the reason for choosing ap rather than dpp4)? I own the payed mac version1.5 of ap, and I think it's a great software, but sometimes it seems to me I don't get as good results as in dpp4; is there a basic routine starting from scratch? I'm looking at all the videos tutorial but a detailed pdf guide would be helpful, definitely, and very appreciated (not only by me, I guess). Thank you for answering, arfo
rintin
This isn't a quality comment for sure, but I think when you have two good apps, the difference is only on the time you spend working with one or another software. If you can have the whole process in a single app (AP), I think it will get better and easier when you get used to it.
emmrecs01
@arfo62, You might care to look at https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/30398-raw-conversion-soft-darker-colors/ a thread where I, along with the OP, found some not inconsiderable differences between the RAW conversion of AP and that of Canon's own DPP4. Admittedly this was in the Windows version but it sounds very much as if the MAC version has the same problem. I'm sure the AP RAW convertor will "get better" but, for now, DPP4 produces a better result (also, for me, using a Canon EOS 600D). arfo62
Hi rintin, hi emmrec, thank you for answering, as rintin says I would like to make thing as simple as possible (only one software?) but raw conversion is still a problem (for me) with AP while DPP4 is not as powerful for editing... I'm trying to understand if I do some mistake with AP raw developing... @emmrec: in AP you can set variour parameters in the assistant like 'apply tone curve and so on and it change the starting point very much; i did various attempts but at the end I always come out with less details definition... Some other opinion/experience? arfo
