DRALBERT Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 My desktop is Win 7 Pro. I installed Affinity Beta this week and it will not run. The window message I get is : Windows AERO desktop Theme is required. I searched the internet and followed all the suggestions to activate AERO with no success, on continuous icon executions. What is the problem and the process to resolve the issue. I currently run Light Room 5.
SrPx Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 So, you mean that you can't activate Aero in your machine? I would be worried about my actual machine or OS wouldn't allow me that, as then something bad is certainly going on there... Are you sure you right clicked on empty space on desktop, hit "customize", and clicked in any of the "Aero themes" that show up there, and nothing happened? :o . It should like get all to become teporarily like in greys, while it changes appearance, and after some seconds, all the flashy windows and better visuals are loaded. In my signature you have tips to diminish the aero settings, if you dislike the thing. Another path other than right clicking in empty desktop space is going to "Windows Settings" in Start menu, then customization, then picking one of the Aero Themes, there. It is really simple to do. Yet a third way (to which you get familiar with if checking that link I have below) is to simply right click on your machine desktop icon, if you have it there like I do, and click on the option "Properties" (or if you get lost there, just go to Start Menu, Windows Settings, System). So, once in "System", click on "System advanced settings" (if worded so in English version), then in "advanced properties" tab, hit the first button ("performance" area, button labelled "settings" or configuration), and in a new window that shows up, you have several options. If you want to make it simple, just click "Adjust to get the best appearance", this triggers all or almost all visual effects on. A better thing would be selecting the "let Windows decide the best configuration", as this probably activates only what it must. or my favorite, select the radio button "customize" . And then only activate (leaving all others switched off) : -Desktop Window Manager Composition -Show thumbnails instead of icons -Fonts smoothing -Use visual styles in Windows and buttons. This provides what Affinity needs for the application, but reduces the flashy stuff to a minimum. As i explain in the thread linked in my signature, you can still later make that aero having a special color for the borders and windows if you dislike that blue. So, many ways to do it. And you say you cannot activate Aero in Windows 7 ? Try all this, please, and if yet doesn't work, something weird is going on in that machine/OS... PD: have you edited in the past some sort of particular regedit change...? I only can think of that as a reason that doesn't let you put an Aero theme in your desktop..or some very rare issue in your graphic card... But if is the latter, I'd try my method of customize, or just hit "for better performance" in that advanced properties list of radio buttons I just described above. Best luck! AD, AP and APub V2.6.x. Windows 10 and Windows 11.
