It should be possible to only have one axis in a grid, for columnar layouts common in web and print design. Those use cases don't really need a second axis, and all the unnecessary horizontal grid lines are distracting in that context.

That will probably be quite easy to add.

Will have to wait until we start on the 1.6 cycle now though.

I will be adding automatic guide creation tools also.  This will be in addition to the existing grids.

Hey Ben, I've been thinking about some smart guides maybe you will see the benefit of this:

I often time need to lay out guides for temporary use in a local area of a design. And often times the guides are close together and once zoomed out they all create visual noise so I have to go and delete them.

Would it be possible to have guides which auto-delete, or only persist for a preset amount of time (set via a preference "duration" field) ?

These temporary guides would be dragged out from the ruler just like regular guides, except via a modifier key and with a corresponding unique visual signifier, say a dotted line style or something else to diferentiate these new "temp guides" visually from regular guides...

I love using guides but I hate the clean-up process. I think these guides would be a welcomed addition and productivity booster. Thanks for your consideration and all the amazing work you guys do.
