mopperle Posted March 17 Posted March 17 I'm now working since over a year intensively with Publisher (coming from Indesign) and really would have liked the spellchecker to be turned on, as it makes proofreading easier. But the quality for the German language is extremly poor. Too many words are marked as wrong, as they are not part of the dictionary. Microsoft Word and even Open Source like LibreOffice gives results ten times better then Publisher. My current solution: typing text in LibreOffice Writer, copy&paste into Publisher, spellchecker turned off. Hoping for an improvement in the future. The German dictionaries for Affinity and LibreOffice should be identical or close to it because they both use Hunspell for spell checking and hyphenation. You can download the latest German dictionary used by LibreOffice from this page, and select a version for Germany, Austria, or Switzerland. Affinity comes bundled with just the version for Germany. mopperle 1 Quote Download a free PDF manual for Affinity Publisher 2.6 Download a quick reference chart for Affinity's Special Characters Affinity 2.6 for macOS Sequoia 15.4, MacBook Pro (M4 Pro) and iPad Air (M2)
Pšenda Posted March 17 Posted March 17 As far as I know, Affinity uses Hunspell dictionaries (at least for Windows), which are the dictionaries that LibreOffice also uses. If their dictionaries have ten times more words, you could try using them. https://github.com/LibreOffice/dictionaries mopperle 1 Quote Affinity Store (MSI/EXE): Affinity Suite (ADe, APh, APu) 2.5.7.2948 (Retail) Dell OptiPlex 7060, i5-8500 3.00 GHz, 16 GB, Intel UHD Graphics 630, Dell P2417H 1920 x 1080, Windows 11 Pro, Version 24H2, Build 26100.2605. mopperle Posted March 18 Author Posted March 18 Thanks guys, will check that. I always thought that Hunspell is only a spellchecker engine working with a given dictionary. But maybe the dictionaries on the LibreOffice site are more recent then the one currently included in Publisher 2.6. Will check it. Pšenda 1 Quote Regards, Otto Affinity Suite v2.6.x - Windows 11 Pro

So I would expect rather minor corrections (fixes and additions of some new words), and that's why I'm surprised that you think the checking in LibreOffice is ten times better. P.S. You may be using the dictionary learning with specific terms in LibreOffice, which unfortunately do not transfer to APublisher - the terms must be entered again. mopperle Posted March 18 Author Posted March 18 Indeed, downloading the latest dictionaries from the LibreOffice site gave a huge improvement: errors in the same text went down to 19 from 33. Thanks again for your help. Pšenda 1 Quote Regards, Otto Affinity Suite v2.6.x - Windows 11 Pro
