Hi there,

I have only been using Affinity Photo for a very short time, and I'm getting ready to send my first print to my Canon Pixma Pro 200 using Hahnemuhle Bamboo Paper. I have done the soft proofing in the file and the image looks correct, but the print dialog box seems to not let me get very detailed as it would be in Photoshop. ie: choosing the paper, icc profile etc.

I have tried to re-load all of the current Canon drivers and software, etc. There doesn't seem to be a new driver for Mac OS 15, so I'm using ones for OS 14.

I'm including a screen shot of the print dialog box, and as I choose the options below, again, they don't seem to allow for icc profile, who manages the colour, etc.

I don't know what I'm missing.

Thank you,
Nicole

I've tried going through all the dialog boxes, and again, I'm not getting icc profiles, only choices that seem "elementary". I'm also trying to figure out if this is an issue on the printer side as it may not be installed properly. I recently upgraded my Mac, and I've been having some issues loading the driver onto my computer. I would think that I should be able to pick the type of paper somewhere here in the print box.

Hi @Nicole Deibert According to Canon, it should be in the Quality & Media section in the Media Type list. If you're not seeing that in the panel then you likely don't have the printer driver properly installed. Do you see the option when you try to print from Numbers, Pages, or any other Apple app? If not, then that's confirmation that the driver isn't properly installed.

I checked Canon's website and I think they updated your driver already this year. The page stated it's compatible with Sequoia but not which version of Sequoia.

Depending on when you upgraded your computer, it's possible you had an older driver installed and one of the Sequoia updates removed it. When I Installed the Sequoia 15.1 update, it removed my HP printer driver with a small warning that I ignored until I tried to print.

For anybody else with this issue on an HP printer, HP hasn't updated all of their drivers for 15.1. Trying to install my old driver (dated 2022 in my case) didn't work because macOS wouldn't accept it. I found instructions online to trick it into installing so Apple must have removed old drivers in advance of removing support for them. But when I installed Sequoia 15.3 it warned me its days are numbered so if HP doesn't update their driver I'll have to buy a new printer when that happens.

While it might be 'simple' to print your image from within Affinity Photo, you might want to consider not doing that and instead using Canon's Professional Print & Layout software:

https://www.canon.co.uk/printers/inkjet/pixma/software/professional-print-layout-software/

It's compatible with your printer.  I suggest this because someone I know (on another forum) uses it for her prints and she uses it because it gives her far more control over the output than she can get from any other software.

@stuck Thanks for that suggestion. I was used to printing out of Photoshop, and while it was a big learning curve, I had it dialled in. Now I have a new computer, new program and I'm definitely finding out where all my gaps in knowledge and printer drivers, paper info etc are. I may try out that software as a comparison. I think I have it mostly fixed now, just colour correcting tweaks as what's on my screen isn't exactly printing correctly. There's so many moving parts, it's easy to forget how everything goes together.

@MikeTO Thanks, MikeTO. I had everything loaded, and because I just upgraded my Mac, I had to re-load everything again, including all the paper profiles and drivers, and icc profiles etc etc. Blah. So many moving parts. I'm close now. Thanks for your suggestion.
