CCC-PB Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Below is an older Designer 1 topic I came across, looking for a Designer 2 alternative to Illustrators alt+node tool: I'm sorry to say that the mentioned ctrl+A (select all) is not at all the same as Illustrators alt+node tool. See attached video clips (first is Illustrator, second is Designer 2). Is there possibly a way of doing this in Designer that I overlooked? I think it would be very helpful functionality in Designer too. Illustrator.mp4 designer2.mp4 Quote
Pu Koh Posted January 21 Posted January 21 This is sooooo. needed. I find the whole implementation of nodes and line manipulating convoluted and complicated for no real good reason. If i want to create this shape in adobe AI it's a 1 second job. M key. Click and drag a box. A key, click on bottom line. Delete key. In designer, it's M key, click and drag the box. Right click shape. Convert to curves. Node tool. select left corner. Shift click right coner. Click break node button. Select line. Delete. In what world does this make ANY sense. Quote

Pu Koh Posted January 21 Posted January 21 yeah, not exactly easy if i want it to be a specific height and width. Any other suggestions? Quote

Pu Koh Posted January 23 Posted January 23 amaze. i don't even see the cmd+return in the shortcuts preferences. How did you work that one out! And Ctrl click to delete a line?!?! Amaze. Super intuitive. Where did you learn all these magic tricks. Quote

The status bar of Designer 1.x informed about using ctrl to delete a path segment. Unfortunately, 2.x neglects to include that hint unless the ctrl key is actually depressed. CCC-PB 1 Quote

I like to add that, to be able to see the hint in the status bar - besides needing to press the ctrl key - you'll also need to hover over the element you want to delete. I don't mind the workflow in Illustrator differs from Designer, I can adapt to that :) lepr 1 Quote

Serif, it is the equivalent of a bug that this CTRL + click shortcut no longer appears in the status bar when using the node tool and pointer is over a segment of a line. It's hardly a deliberate change and it hits a bad spot, it's an eminently usable feature. Quote Serif, did you foolishly fill the usability specialist role you advertised internally? If so, be transparent with your customers. Continuing without proper UX expertise both insults and affects your entire customer base.
