Hi, tearing my (bit of) 80 year old hair out here.

I have a simple vector image in Designer and I want to select and move parts of it.

Can I work it out? NOOO!

I have drawn around the bit of the image I want ro move with the pen ... but can't do anything with it, apart from save it a a shape in a layer.

I don't want the shape per se, I want that part of the image.

As you may tell .. I am pretty new and clueless.

Thanks

Are you using the Node Tool? Are you sure you have selected a vector curve object & not an image, pixel, or quick shape layer?

BTW, your topic title says "Copy Selection" but it sounds like you want to move (reshape) part of an existing vector shape. Which is it?

I don't want to mishape.

I have a vector comic image of a cat.

I want to select/isolate one of the legs and reposition it.

That's as technical as I can get ... sorry.

Can you post a screenshot or a sample file? Try to include the layers panel with the relevant layers in it in the screenshot.

What you're asking to do is very very simple so if you're having trouble doing it I'm assuming that there's something different about the way your document is structured that the obvious way of doing it isn't working.

Are you sure this is a single vector object that includes the nodes forming the leg shape? If not, as was just suggested, if possible post either a screenshot of the document with the Layers panel or the document itself.

@Fairholm It may not be quite what you had in mind, but have you tried using the Knife Tool?  Here is a quick video to show you what I mean.  My cat would need to have a little cleaning up to straighten the edges, but that would be simple with the Eraser Tool.  Needless to say, the cat must be a vector object.
