TPG Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 I am working with Publisher 2.5.6 on a Windows PC with Win-11. Since this latest update Publisher is continually freezing up when I am working with master pages. It freezes when I move elements on the page (tables, text boxes) and when I apply a master to a page. It has crashed numerous times when I am applying masters or trying to reorder pages in the document. While I can export to PDF, I have to do it multiple times as the first try causes the app to freeze and I have to force shut down and then it works. There is also this constant lag that everything is slower than what I am actually doing (applying styles/changing fonts/inserting elements). It is like it is thinking about it and there is a pause before my changes happen. Anybody else have a ghost in their mine with this update? Quote
Hangman Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Hi @TPG, Can you upload a Publisher document where you're experiencing these issues so we can test to see if we see the same problems? TPG Posted December 9, 2024 Author Posted December 9, 2024 Hi @Hangman, It is a big document, 500 pages, do you want the whole thing? I am creating a planner. Quote
Hangman Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Hi @TPG, If you can zip everything up including any linked files and upload that would be helpful unless it's a really silly size... Are you running any Data Merges to create the Planner? TPG Posted December 9, 2024 Author Posted December 9, 2024 I created the pages with a data merge but I am not using it for the document I am working with. I data merged sections and then saved the pages as PDF and inserted them into this planner. It does have clickable links though (from PDF)but this is mostly the design file. Quote
Hangman Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 Does that mean that the vast majority of the 500 pages contain Linked or Embedded PDF pages? If so it's quite possible that could impact performance... Did you experience any issues with earlier versions or was this project started in 2.5.6? TPG Posted December 9, 2024 Author Posted December 9, 2024 Yes, majority are embedded PDF. I created this planner last year and did not have these issues. I have just updated it for 2025. I have everything embedded, always did it that way because I change sources. I know that can slow it down but these issues are new for this update. It has never kicked me out before. I know it would take a longer time to export and it would slow down at times but this new lag is different. I embedded the PDF because I was nervous after having to recreate everything I had done in the Beta version and it wouldn't export. Quote
Staff NathanC Posted January 9 Staff Posted January 9 Hi @TPG apologies for the late reply, As Hangman mentioned we'll need a copy of the file in it's entirety to see if these problems can be re-produced and identify and potential factors. If required I can provide a private upload link. Thanks! Quote
