Help!!!

After the latest update, i have an issue with my book project. Suddenly the first chapter makes trouble (see screenshot) that leads to correct pagination from the second chapter on. I tried to open the „locked“ file and saved as a new one - no luck!
Can someone help me please?

EDIT: When i export the book as pdf, the first chapter is missing.

Hi @pummelfee,

Try the following:

  1. Close the first locked Chapter in your Book or close the Book completely
  2. In the Mac Finder navigate to the folder containing your Book Chapters
  3. With the folder selected hit Cmd Shift Full Stop to show invisible files
  4. You should now see a hidden lock file called ~Vorspann aktuell~
  5. Delete the lock file and empty the trash
  6. Hit Cmd Shift Full Stop to hide invisible files
  7. Reopen the Vorspann aktuell Chapter and see whether it is still shown as locked

Let us know if that makes any difference or if the first Chapter remains locked...

Thank you, but there is no such file.

To make it a bit more detailed.
As soon as i try to export the book to pdf, in the books panel the pagination switches to the wrong values as seen in the screenshot and then the file lock symbol appears. But no ~ file appears.

PS.: Could this also be related to the table of contents that is in the problematic file?

Hi @pummelfee,

Thanks for confirming... The error message you're seeing, 'The file is already open in another program' is usually an indication that a ~lock~ file hasn't been successfully deleted.

If you create a new Book file and add the Chapters to the new Book in order do you see the same issue?

If you do, can you zip the Chapters and .afbook file up and upload it so we can take a look?

I created a new book file and it seems to work now. Serif should take a look at this, maybe its a bug. The files that make up my book project are very simple, there are only a few paragraph formats and no images so this simple task should work.
I also had no program crashes while working on the book, so I can't understand why there could be corrupt files that led to this problem. Serif should make sure that the book function works smoothly!

I'm glad all is working for you with the new Book file... I've seen a few instances of the lock file not being deleted even when Publisher doesn't crash but I'm unsure of the cause at the moment...

Out of interest, is the first Chapter, Vorspann aktuell formatted like a Table of Contents?

I think it's just a translation issue, Vorspann aktuell translates as Opening Credits so I was unsure whether that actually was a ToC so thanks for clarifying...
