I moved the pasted image link
to a separate pin using Publisher's software.
At that time, when opening the file,
it does not finish loading and cannot be opened.
Can I ignore the link and open the file?
I know the location of the linked file,
so after opening it, I use resources to reproduce
 the link.

Can you show any exact error message, please?  Normally if there are missing resources you will get a warning but the document will load and you can then use the Resource Manager to point the missing resources at the new location.

Thank you, DuncanL!!

There are no error messages. "Loading file" will be displayed at the top of the screen. However, even if I stand for 10 minutes or 20 minutes, the display does not change. File will not open. When I try to close the app, I get a message saying "Loading 1 file. Please wait until it's finished before quitting." I want to open the file once so I can re-paste the link myself.

Does this mean you moved the image within the APub layout document? – Or did you move the image file on the computer's drive?

Yes, the .afpub should open independently of its links.

You can try in the Windows Explorer or macOS Finder to rename the parent folder of the image. Then start APub and try to open the .afpub document. Sometimes this helps with resource issues.

I'm using macOS. Originally, the images were placed in the same folder as APub. To organize it, I put it in a folder. Currently, it is placed in the same folder as APub. Create a new folder, rename it, and try opening the APub file again.

It doesn't work. Even if I change the name of the folder containing the images, the files will not open. Even if I put the file in the same folder as the image, it won't open.
To be more precise, the message "Loading 1 document" remains displayed for about 10 minutes.

This is the second time this problem has occurred. Last time, I didn't really understand the rules for "embedding" and "collecting" images, so I gave up and started over.

It's a shame because it's a very useful software for creating documents.

Renaming the image folder has the approach to make APub ask for missing images. – If Affinity can't find a linked resource in its initial file path or file name then APub usually shows a dialog like this when opening the .afpub:

Bildschirmfoto2024-12-02um13_49_49.jpg.6d3295222b7d19ef8bffe70f307ed468.jpg

Do you get such dialog? If yes, what button did you choose?

If not, try this way: Close the app -> open the app without opening a document -> close the app -> reopen the app again. Then try to open the document. This multiple app closing/opening without opening a document may help APub to get rid of possible autosave and temp files that may otherwise cause confusion for the app if they contain information that is not valid anymore.

That error message doesn't appear. It's been reading for a long time and never finishes.

Try opening and closing the app.

It is unclear where exactly the resources are currently stored and what steps you tried in detail.

Make sure that APub has no access to the linked resources AND has no ".autosave" file stored in its system folder:

  1. Close the APub app
  2. Move the resources with their parent folder to a different location AND outside of the folder that contains the .afpub.
  3. Open the app without opening any document.
  4. Close the app.
  5. Open the app again.
  6. Open the related document.

Does the message about "Missing Resource(s)" appear now? – If not, can you upload the .afpub file to the forum for a forum user to test (without any linked resource)?

Or does APub try to open the document automatically? In this case you need to change a preference in APub and/or your macOS settings to avoid automatic reopening of recent documents.

folder

I don`t understand clealy.

I am currently re-creating the documents in a hurry.
There are 4 files with the same situation as the one I uploaded.
I don't have time to check the operations you taught me.

I quickly uploaded the file.

I don't get the "resource not found" message. However, it keeps showing "Loading file".

Is this file corrupt?

It doesn't appear so. It opens perfectly well here and all resources are said to be OK.

@Oufti, if you can open without uploaded resources it appears to indicate that none of the resources is linked but all are embedded, – right?

@Tagoal, for embedded resources the workaround of renaming a file path or moving a folder I mentioned above does not help to enable you to replace a corrupted resource or its link/URL. If the issue still occurs when .autosave + temp files got cleaned up (by opening/closing twice without document),  it seems you need to recreate the .afpub layout from scratch (as you started meanwhile) or with an earlier document's state (from a backup for instance).

Indeed, at least for the document posted here on the forums.

But looking closer to these resources, I can see their original storage place, and I think the culprit is that some of these files are stored on iCloud.

For what purpose would APub check the paths of embedded resources? This file path should only be relevant if a user wants to switch a resource from 'embedded' to 'linked'. – Otherwise APub might require for every embedded resource its initial storage being available or still valid, – agree?

That's way I assumed an .autosave or temp file might cause the issue on the OP's computer only.

I don't know much about it but I see this:

In Affinity v.2, this line indicating the original path is always present, even if the images are embedded. It looks to me like a reminder, in case we were wondering "where did this image come from?"

Ou! I was careless! I forgot that creating it in icloud will cause trouble.

It was in this folder before.

I have now moved it to another HDD.

Thank you so much everyone.

I was stupid.

That's like in V1. I just wonder why your screenshot does not show a column "Placement" for the status embedded or linked.

However, if you see "OK" this does not mean 'linked' (unless you have these resources) but it shows 'missing' for all linked resources of the OP.

The file path is not just a reminder but also used when you toggle an embedded resource from 'embedded' to 'linked'.

Thank you for sharing this info!

By the way, you should get the "Missing Resources" dialog window if you prevent the access for Affinity to the iCloud volume (disable iCloud in macOS or unplug internet). Then Affinity enables you to can assign a different resource path in the Resource Manager.

Because my screen is very small, thus this Placement column was hidden — but all images were embedded.
