Luxy Posted October 19, 2024 Posted October 19, 2024 I am trying to use this file, which shows a transparent background, but its not transparent. I'm just trying to get accustomed to this software, and I know I have alot to learn. Is there something actually wrong with this file, or is it the user? I'm trying to make a logo around this but I just can't figure out how to remove that stupid grid, it seems like its connected to the actual drawing. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. On another note, are there any courses which you can take to train you how to use this software properly? I took AutoCAD courses before and crushed it, so I know I can figure it out, but there is a big learning curve. I try to use the help search but I get nowhere usually, but I have to say it's better than alot of programs help menus. LOL. Thanks in advance for your help. Quote
GarryP Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Welcome to the forums @Luxy The Affinity applications cannot handle all of the things that can exist in EPS files and this is one of those cases. If you look at how the layers are organised you will see that the document is made of lots of little bitmap images. Some of those images have the ‘transparency checkerboard’ within them so getting rid of it will be a pain. The first thing I would recommend is trying to get a SVG version of the file instead of an EPS version. As for training courses, have a look in the Resources section of these forums for lots of ideas. Another good place to start would be to go to the Help menu in your Affinity application and trying one of the items there, such as “Video Tutorials”. Quote
Hangman Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Hi @Luxy and another warm welcome to the forums, @GarryP beat me to it again, but to add to his comments, merging all the image layers will allow you to make selections of the checkerboard background and delete them so you'll end up with just the tyre on a transparent background... GarryP Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Just wondering, but does anyone know the copyright situation for that file? In other words, is it okay to be uploading it to a public forum and/or making derivatives? From what I can tell it's a Vecteezy Pro-only download but I don't use that site so I don't know the details. Hangman 1 Quote

There are many similar versions of the file on Vecteezy, I couldn't locate the one with the matching reference number though I think I know which one it is so just to be 100% sure I've removed the files... @Luxy now we know what the issue is you should remove the actual Vecteezy file and post a screen grab in its place... PaulEC Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 If it's pro content (i.e. paid for), then it might be a good idea to complain to Vecteezy. They may not actually fix it now, but if enough people complain, they might consider making their products more Affinity friendly in the future! I didn't realize that EPS files were not fully compatible with Affinity. I will definitely watch for SVG versions instead. Regarding a training course, I found a good one on Udemy that is a full course that takes you through everything in a logical way and it has been helping me alot. I found the tutorial videos I was picking and choosing and it was just hard to decide where to start. Alot of the problems were just that the file was not working properly. lol. Live and learn. Quote

GarryP Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 Luxy, have you checked the licence for that design to see whether it’s okay to share it in these forums? Quote
paleolith Posted October 22, 2024 Posted October 22, 2024 Also look for MikeTO's posts in this forum. His sig will have a link to his AfPub manual. (You didn't say which Affinity program you are using.) Mike's manual is easier to read than the Affinity help files, particularly because he includes a lot of screen grabs -- shows you as well as telling you. Quote
