This is occurring on the latest version of Affinity Photo (v2.5.5) but it has probably always been an issue?

If I use EXIFTOOL to show the "Date/Time Original" from a JPG taken with my Sony Alpha 7R Mark V it has a date that does include a timezone (the "Offset Time", "Offset Time Digitized", and "Offset Time Original" tags are present as well).

However, after editing and exporting from Affinity Photo as a JPG (same format) it drops the timezone.  That's problematic working with various photo library apps and I'd like the unmodified files and modified files to both have the same state.  In other words: files with dates with timezone info should have this preserved while files without timezone info should likewise have that lack of timezone info preserved.

BEFORE:

  • Date/Time Original : 2024:04:12 09:51:01.919+02:00
  • Offset Time : +02:00
  • Offset Time Digitized : +02:00
  • Offset Time Original : +02:00

AFTER:

  • Date/Time Original : 2024:04:12 09:51:01.919

NOTE: These files are lacking GPS co-ordinates if that makes any difference (some of my files pick up GPS co-ordinates from my iPhone with the Sony Imaging Edge software running but this doesn't always happen).  I'm not sure if the problem also occurs when GPS co-ordinates are present but wanted to make sure I specified this in case it makes a difference.

Thanks!

Hi @Kepa Online,

I took a look at some out-of-camera JPEGs from the Sony Alpha 7R Mark V, opened them in Affinity Photo, made some adjustments and then re-exported them as JPEGs and yes, for some reason the timezone is stripped out of the Date Time Original Metadata despite appearing in Affinity Photo...

I don't know if it's sufficient but I did note that the time and timezone appear in both the original and re-exported JPEGs under Create Date...

Before

  • Create Date: 2022:10:18 19:37:11.365-08:00
  • Date/Time Original: 2022:10:18 19:37:11.365-08:00

After

  • Create Date: 2022:10:18 19:37:11.365-08:00
  • Date/Time Original: 2022:10:18 19:37:11.365

Hi All,

As far as I'm aware this is just something that isn't supported by our current implementation of Libxmp if you wouldn't mind providing a sample file that demonstrates this issue I can make a report internally for this functionality to be added.

Thanks

Hi @Callum,

This appears to happen with any file, I also tested it with some Nikon Z9 RAW files and it's the same issue...

The part that perhaps doesn't make sense is the Date Time Original Metadata appears in Affinity Photo with the timezone included before exporting... Would the expectation be that this should then be included in the exported file or is this a limitation of Libxmp when exporting JPEG files?
