Carlos54
I was working on two files at the same time in Affinity Publisher 2.5.5 in Windows 10. Both were saved in the same directory on my local disc. When opening Affinity Publisher I got a warning that some settings could not be loaded. One of the two files opens without problems but when opening the other file I get the error message "The file type is not supported"

zeroART
Help needed. I opened my file this morning and then my Mac restarted itself (first time it's done this) and now my file won't open giving me the error 'This file type is not supported' My last saved backup copy was a month ago and It will be a lot of work to start again. File is attached if someone can get it opened - much appreciated and many thanks It's approx 250 pages and text only. mopperle
Cant open it too (on Windows). Maybe it got corrupted, when your Mac shut down and restarted. You should make backups more frequently. With Macs Time Machine an easy to do daily task. Quote Regards, Otto Affinity Suite v2.5.x - Windows 11 Pro
Hangman
Hi @zeroART, Your file is missing it is File Header and it indicates it's corrupt... Whether anyone in the Dev team at Serif can recover it I'm unsure but I think you may be out of luck I'm afraid... Not that it's any comfort but I would have to echo @mopperle and say for mission-critical files back up daily as the bare minimum... Are you wanting me to click on the like 'What to do if you Affinity document.... ? That's telling me 'This topic is now closed to further replies' or do I start a new topic on the link on that page? Sorry first time on this Forum.

It's not possible to reply to that thread since it's a locked FAQ, but if you reply here and copy and paste the questions from the FAQ post and put the answers below that would be the best option, E.G: Which Affinity app and version did the file last get saved in? (ie Photo, 2.4.2) Photo 2.5.5 Which Operating System and version are you using? (ie Windows 10, macOS 10.15 Catalina) Windows 11 What error message is shown when trying to open the file? Please include a screenshot of this error if necessary. File type not supported Etc. Etc.

I was working on something else (surfing the net) when my Mac restarted in the background for no reason. My Affinity Publisher app was open as was the document which was saved. When my Mac restarted, I went to open the document again but got the error: 'This file type is not supported'. I have attached the screenshot. Running on mac mini M1 - macOS Somona 14.5 Affinity Publisher 2 v2.5.2 The document was saved to an External Hard Drive and all other copies saved are from a month ago also. The file was created approx December 2023 but the corrupt files shows it was created YESTERDAY 10:13am, that's when the reboot happened. No Anti Virus apps used but I do use SurfShark VPN THANK • 1980 ALL TOGETHER 2024 NEW MASTER.afpub
Staff NathanC Posted September 26 Staff Share Posted September 26 Hi @zeroART, Thanks for answering those queries, we'll get your file logged with the development team. Please note this is primarily for the purposes of investigating what's caused the crash. We can't guarantee that your file can be recovered and we're not able to provide a timeframe. If possible, I would suggest reverting to a backup/previous version if one is available. 1 hour ago, zeroART said: The document was saved to an External Hard Drive and all other copies saved are from a month ago also. Going forward we generally recommend saving files back to local storage as opposed to external storage mediums (Cloud, Network, External SSD) as doing so often significantly reduces the chances of corruption.
