Hello, I am looking for the possibility of using something like sweep in affinity designer 2  - I need to create a surface that follows along my curve - is there an option on how to make it, thanks a lot for some ideas! M.

Hi @mimishell and welcome to the forums,

If I've understood the meaning of 'sweep' in this context, you could potentially do this by creating a Textured Image or Intensity brush in Designer though note these are not true Vector brushes...

Could you upload a screenshot showing what you'd like to achieve so we can better help you...

Ah, thank you, it's nothing serious, just a simple shape - but peak should be a problem, maybe. I have to admit, that I was using affinity only for 2D till now and part of my brain still trying to screw it into a new version of Catia by creating pads in 2 secs. Or blender... damn there should be a way how to make this without having nightmares.

Hi @mimishell,

Thanks for the screenshot...

So I understand, do you want to create the appearance of a 3D object using your base shape or am I missing the point of what you're looking to achieve?

yes, in 3D I usually using base and add height - like pad, here when I have to thinking in 2D I was thinking about using line and curve. But it should be something simplier I suppose .. XD

Is the end result you're looking for anything close to the red heart on the right or is it just intended to look like the outlined version on the left?

Can you upload a screengrab of the logo so we can see how it should look or is that what you're creating from scratch?

I only failed to create a front surface of heart

If I understand right, you want to create a cylindrical shape (and use the heart as its lid)? – If yes, you could…

  1. start with a rectangle,
  2. convert it to curves,
  3. add two nodes at the top & bottom edges,
  4. use the Align options to align each new node in the middle between its two existing neighbours and
  5. adjust the handles of the new nodes with shift-control-drag to make them match the shape of the heart.

Well, I feel a bit ashamed, because I figured out that I failed only in how I am thinking about it - I figured out that there is no need to construct a new surface like I did in 3D, simply because I will never "rotate"  front view. I can only fake it and fill the shape using the gradient tool (or not) and voila - there is a special 3D feeling from an object in 2D. Too easy.  I am sorry that I wasted your time on forum :S . Have a beautiful day !
