If any (or all) of the TOC entries are earlier in the document than the TOC Text Frame then you will need to switch “Include entries before TOC” to ON in the Table of Contents Panel – see attached image.

To see the Table of Contents Panel, use menu “Window → References → Table of Contents”.

Thanks, I figured it out, but when exporting as a PDF, there are no links from the Table of contents to the respective pages.

That is the whole point for me for table of context can I implement that?

Are you still having this problem? It's a bit confusing because your first post says "user error solved".

Try turning “Include as PDF Bookmarks” ON in the same panel as shown above.

ok yes, I tried to delete the whole post but could not. Next will just leave it

 

I managed to get the table of contents going (that was my initial issue), but when exporting as PDF, I have no links from TOC to the respective pages. 

I'm also wondering how I can export as a PDF with individual single pages, not a  spread.

What Export Preset did you use? Some have Hyperlinks enabled, some (those for Print) don't, but you can enable the option yourself.

If you delete/hide the thread then no-one else with the same problem will find the solutions that you received and they might need to ask the same question again.

Export using Area = All Pages rather than All Spreads in the Export Panel.

I just opened Publish again with the same document to see if the suggestions work, and all panels are gone, I can't find a way to restore it. ???

all my sidebars are gone; why would everything be empty just after closing and re-opening the application? All my right-hand side toolbars are gone don't know how to get them back. (sorry new to publisher)

 

My TOC bar is gone, and all other sidebars with Master Pages/Pages etc. can't figure out how to get them back. Grrrr

The problem is there is no View/Studio as shown in the manual

 

how do I get all my side panels back?

thank you so much. Hide Studio was on, whatever that means, and I sure did not select it before closing.

It’s certainly curious but I can’t remember hearing about that happening before, it’s definitely not something that happens often.

However, it’s pretty easy to accidentally press a keyboard shortcut combination before the application has finished shutting down.

Looking at screen-grabs to try and diagnose a problem that could have various (linked?) causes can be difficult and time-consuming.

If you can share the document publicly then someone should be able to find the cause of the problem, and a solution to it, fairly quickly.

One final(?) thing.

Have a look at the link you are using for the online Help as it looks like you are seeing the Help for Version 1 but (from what I can tell) you are using Version 2.

Notice the “2” at the end of “publisher” in the URL.
