I have imported an object from Publisher – that has had text wrapping applied to it there – to Designer.

I'm trying, unsuccessfully, to find the wrapping controls in Designer to remove the wrapping behaviour from it.

Can someone please confirm what I'm beginning to suspect now, namely that Designer – professional software for, you know, designing things like posters, flyers et cetera – does NOT have something as elementary as text wrapping tool built-into it?

Just a little bewildered I'd have to switch apps to use something this simple.

Text wrapping can mean several things. Can you provide a screenshot to clarify your question?

Also, as you have both Publisher and Designer, why not just keep working in Publisher? You can do everything there you can do in Designer except for using the Export Persona. Edit: Sorry. You also need Photo if you want the functions you could get in Designer's Pixel Persona.

Hi Walt. No screenshots I'm afraid, but what I mean is the basic object-based text-wrap controls present in free software such as Apple Pages, Word since roughly mid-forever that allow you to indicate your desired object (say a rectangle or an image) to cause any other text-based objects around it to dynamically reshape based on its placement.

About your point on Publisher, I'm learning to think this way; I can appreciate why Serif splits similar functions in such a way to encourage buying the entire suite as much as I can appreciate why someone who only purchased Designer may be furious beyond belief that they don't have access to such elementary tools in paid for software. It's a tricky conundrum, no easy solutions I can think of, but definitely has Serif risking a bad rep if they pay-wall complete basics such as this one.

I'll move the project to Publisher in line with your advice. I do believe some functionality is missing from designer and photo tabs there, but hey - you can't have everything. It's all good.

Thank you.

For Designer, nothing is missing except the Export Persona and Pixel Persona, but you didn't need the Pixel Persona if you have Photo. For Photo, the other Photo Personas are missing, and a few other functions.

Thanks for that clarification. No, you can't change those settings in Designer, but you'll be able to do that in the Publisher Persona in Publisher.

You don’t need to “move” the project to Publisher, just open the AFDESIGN document in Publisher. (When you later use Save As, the new document will then, by default, be an AFPUB document.)

No software I know of has every tool that some people would consider elementary, basic, or the like. For instance, many people might think various tools included with dedicated word processor apps like Word are so basic or elementary that they should be included in every app that supports text (& a few have said so in these forums), or that any app that supports images should include at least basic animation capabilities.

Besides, there are many people that do not need all 3 apps & can appreciate they don't have to pay more to get just what they need.
