Lisapdx Posted June 19, 2024 Posted June 19, 2024 I’m sorry if this question has been asked before — I searched the forum for an answer with no luck. I’ve been using the pencil tool for a long time, and have recently started using the brush tool because it’s more like freehand drawing (I find the nodes with the pencil tool distracting). I want full control to expand my vector strokes, so I’ve been trying to create a solid vector brush that has a specific pressure profile attached to it— not one that is affected by my Apple Pencil pressure. I expected it to work the way the pencil tool does, which allows me to manually create a pressure curve (via the stroke panel) and then draw with it. It would be amazing to be able to save a simple vector brush with a pressure curve and line width as a preset, but whenever I test the brush, the pressure is always different for every stroke because it’s determined by my Apple Pencil. I’ve tried all of the controllers and none of them will do what I’m trying to do. I appreciate any advice! Quote
Staff DWright Posted June 20, 2024 Staff Posted June 20, 2024 Is it possible for you to post the settings that you used for the brush that you created and do you have a pressure profile set for vector brush in the Designer settings. Quote
Lisapdx Posted June 21, 2024 Author Posted June 21, 2024 Yes, this is a line using the pencil and a custom pressure curve via the stroke panel. This is what I want a brush to do: And this is the solid vector brush I created with an similar curve: And here they are compared. I drew a line with the custom vector brush and set the controller to Pressure. The pressure curve I get is totally different from the pressure curve of my brush (I assume it’s the pressure from my Apple Pencil). Thanks! Quote
walt.farrell Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 Yes, Pressure as the Controller would be the Apple Pencil. Have you tried Brush Defaults or Automatic for the Controller, instead? Lisapdx Posted June 21, 2024 Author Posted June 21, 2024 Yes, I’ve tried all the controllers. I guess my question is: when you create a custom solid vector brush and change the pressure curve (see my 2nd screenshot above), what exactly does that affect? Quote
airwhale Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 It affects the width of the line at each node, relative to the start and end node of the stroke. Your line width is the maximum width, anything less than the top of the curve is a narrower stroke than the line width setting. Quote
