TitlesGuy Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 MacOS 14.5 Publisher 2.5.2 Maybe this is a feature, but it looks like a bug to me, and interferes with my work flow. I have an object saved in my assets that consists of two groups of two layers each. The two sets are grouped to make the single object. I need to drag several of these objects onto each page of my document. It works fine, except that if I have anything selected from a previous group, when I drag the new group onto the page, it gets grouped with the earlier group. I believe you can see it in the attached file: Select the object group and drag it into assets Double click in a text frame to select it for entering text, or select any one layer of the group Drag the saved object from the assets onto the page Click in an empty section of the page to deselect Now click on either of the objects to see that they are grouped together It doesn't seem to happen if the entire group is selected; only if a layer of the group is active. If this is by design, I would rather not have assets added to existing groups, whether they are selected or not. In my work flow, I add text to the text frame, then drag a new asset group. If I haven't deselected the text frame, it causes problems when I need to go back to edit one of the earlier groups, and it can bury the 5th or 6th group on a page so deep in the layers pallet that it's difficult to find. Staff Callum Posted June 17, 2024 Staff Posted June 17, 2024 Hi Jay, I believe this is currently by design. You should be able to use the insertion target toggles from the menu seen in my screenshot to force the position of the asset in the layers stack when added. Thanks C Hangman 1 Quote Please tag me using @ in your reply so I can be sure to respond ASAP.
Hangman Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Hi Jay, Just to add to @Callum's reply, if you are dragging multiple instances of the Asset to your canvas, 'Option' Clicking the centre icon 'Insert at the top of the layer' will make the option sticky and mean you can still select a layer from within any of the Groups (should you need to) with subsequent copies of the Asset still appearing outside the Group when added... TitlesGuy Posted June 17, 2024 Author Posted June 17, 2024 Thanks @Callum, I had never noticed those, and wouldn't have understood what they were if I had. While it wasn't what I expected, wiith @Hangman's addendum, it solves my problem neatly. Hangman 1 Quote
