m4x1m Posted May 28, 2024 Posted May 28, 2024 My affinity file is corrupted again. It has never happened to me before, now 2 times in 2 days with 2 different files. I don't want to start all over again! Someone please help me to recover my file... Is there any way to recover my own files if this happens again? Huisstijl V2.afphoto Quote
Dan C Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 Hi @m4x1m, Welcome to the Affinity Forums & we’re sorry to hear that your Affinity document is no longer opening for you. We’ll take a further look at the file provided to see if we can recover any of its contents. We would obviously also like some additional information to see if we can work out the cause of the problem and stop it happening in future. To assist this process, please can you tell us the following: Which Affinity app and version did the file last get saved in? Which Operating System are you using? Are you saving to an Internal drive, External drive or Network location? Is the folder you're saving to syncing to Google drive, OneDrive, iCloud, Dropbox etc...? Do you have any Anti-virus and/or Anti-malware software running on your machine. If so, which one(s)? Was this file a new document or are you trying to save to an existing document? Are you able to save a new document to the same location? Can you remember what you were working on within the affected document before trying to save? Any other information you think would help us try to find the problem? We suggest that you check to see if you have any backups of the document available in case we’re unable to recover the file. If your document is synced to cloud storage, it may have a File History feature that should allow you to download a previous version of the file. The investigation process can take some time, but we’ll be back in contact with our findings. Many thanks in advance! Quote

One file was saved in Affinity Designer, the other in Affinity Photo. I updated both of the apps to Version 2.5.0. a few days ago. (2.5.0.2471 to be exact) 2. Microsoft Windows 11 Pro (Version 10.0.22631) 3. To an external drive (Samsung T7 Shield) 4. Not synced 5. No Anti-virus software that I'm aware of. 6. The Designer file was a file that I had been working on for a long time. I made a new file because I couldn't open it anymore. Later I saved a new file, but again it got corrupted. Now yesterday I even made a third file and wasn't even able to save the file "due to an internal error". 7. Some files I can, others I can't. I don't get why some files result in errors.. 8. I wasn't doing anything special, just working with a lot of layers and artboards. 9. Not really, I think it has something to do with the new update because I had never experienced something like this before and I've had the affinity apps for some years. I always work on my external drive too, but have never had any problems with this. Thanks for helping! Quote
carl123 Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 See if this "recovered" version opens for you I can't vouch for its integrity as I have no time to "test" it. So, do backups (Lots of backups) Huisstijl V2-recovered.afphoto Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

Extern opslaan geeft te vaak corrupte bestanden. Vreemd dat dit nog nooit eerder is gebeurd. Gebruik deze programmas nu al jaren. Nu heb ik plots 3 grote problemen in 2 dagen.. Quote
Dan C Posted May 29, 2024 Posted May 29, 2024 Many thanks for providing that info for me - inspecting your file with a HEX editor shows that sections of data are completely missing from the file, which usually indicates an issue occurred when last loading or saving the file (ie the external drive may have lost connection, even temporarily). I'm glad to hear that the recovered version from Carl above helps workaround the issue with your original file - though I will also be logging this with our development team using the information you've provided for further testing and investigations to try and stop this from occurring in the future. I hope this helps Quote
