walt.farrell Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 Note: I do not think this is a 2.5 issue; I believe I saw this while still on 2.4.2. Steps: Open a Raw image in Photo. In the Develop Persona, choose to produce a RAW Layer (Embedded). (Will also happen for Linked.) Switch to the Crop Tool, and crop the image. Switch back to the View Tool. Tap the check-mark to finish Developing and return to the Photo Persona. With the RAW layer selected, return to the Develop Persona. At this point, you cannot expand the cropped area to include more of the original image or revert the crop. If you were using one of the desktop versions of Photo you would be able to expand or revert the crop, by adjusting the crop grid. I am not sure, but this is a variation of AF-530, an issue with the Reveal option of the Crop Tool not working on iPad. Note: Unlike in the Photo Persona, the Crop Tool in the Develop Persona does not have a Reveal option. However, on the desktop, Reveal is performed automatically in this scenario, allowing recovery of the previously-cropped RAW information. That should happen on the iPad, too. Here's a sample file. The Resource Manager will show a thumbnail of the complete embedded RAW image, for comparison with the cropped version: raw-crop-test.afphoto Edit: Some earlier discussion here: phil4 and rawii22 2 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. Staff NathanC Posted May 28, 2024 Staff Posted May 28, 2024 Hey @walt.farrell, I wouldn't go as far to say it's destructive on iOS if you're using the Embedded or Linked Output because the cropped area can still be reverted again by adjusting the crop boundaries in the develop persona over the dark areas. However the bug is a variant of AF-530 as the cropped area should be automatically revealed when the develop crop tool is selected like on Desktop and it isn't, essentially making the tool redundant for revealing or at least incredibly difficult to use. I'll log this with the developers and link it back to AF-530. Thanks for the report 👍 rawii22 1 Quote

I already tried that, and it did not work for me. Thanks for logging! I tried going ahead and performing a crop in the develop persona even though I couldn’t see the end result, as@NathanC suggested, and it worked. As he suggested, it does make the tool difficult to use, and it still technically does its job, but it gets in the way quite a bit. Edit: I’m on photo version 2.5.3.2516 on iPadOS 17.5.1 walt.farrell 1 Quote
