(RESOLVED) Affinity Designer, Photo, and Publisher won't update. They just hang after pressing install. I have .NET 4.8.1 version. Affinity version 2.0.4 to 2.4.1 Universal License. Please help!

Recommended Posts

I searched google for answers, and can not seem to find anything that will help me.  It's been a while since I have used this program.  The current version I own is 2.0.4.

I don't think I'm blocking any certain IP addresses since it does seem to have found an update for version 2.4.1.   I press install, it highlights install button and just sits for an hour.  Nothing happens.

One of the pages for help I've read was from

but that is the only thing I could find and it's doesn't help.

I don't remember if I installed using EXE or MSIX... I think I used the MSIX version.  It's been a long while.

The error code I got was:  Error: Installation failed! Please try again later.

Hello @Greg T,

I am uncertain if I can help you as you are able to provide very detailed technical information already.

First off I would try to reboot the computer.

Second, we've seen occasional hiccups during the install in the past. So trying again a couple of hours later could solve the problem.

Third, you can look on your C:/ drive for the installation folder of the EXE versions. Search for C:\Program Files\Affinity. If it is there you installed the EXE installer. If it is not there you used the MSIX installer.

Good luck to sort this out.

Thanks for that information, It's the MSIX version.

I've already rebooted the computer.

I've tried running admin, but get a yellow screen warning me...instead of a trusted signed popup message I usually get when I install trusted applications.  So, I didn't use admin privileges because who knows if any other program may have modified that or something since it seems not official.

Again, Thank you for your response!

Issue still exists.

Any other information to help this issue, is welcome!

I wonder... if I uninstall... should I deactivate first.... then I could install the latest version after the uninstall?

Sorry to hear that the problem is not resolved. A deactivation and uninstall could be a solution and then do a clean install.

I don't think you can update from 2.0.4 to 2.4.1 using the automatic install from within the program. That's too big a jump.

I would download the program manually, from //https://affinity.store/update/windows/designer/2

Then run the installer manually. If it doesn't work, you could uninstall the current program first, but I think it will work without doing that.

Thank you!

I went to my account page and found the download links in there for the latest version.

I just downloaded the MSIX file and then right clicked on it and then clicked install.

It asked if I wanted to update.  I clicked update button.

I didn't have to uninstall nor deactivate it.  It detected that I wanted to update it.  Very nice!
