Fill layer and gradient tool behavior

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Photo automatically selects the gradient tool whenever you select a fill layer. (Despite help saying you must select gradient tool yourself).

This has bad consequences: In case you try to work on the inherent mask of the fill layer by pixel brush, you may want to repeatedly switch layers, and change colors of brush to tune the mask. Unfortunately, the automated forced tool change to gradient tool can cause damage very soon: if you forget to switch back to pixel brush (or erase brush), any change of color will change both fill color and color of inherent mask. This change, if not detected immediately and undone, is almost impossible to correct later, as the mask color got changes to the hue of the newly selected color.

I personally rate this as bug.

Please improve:

  1. do not automatically switch tools when selecting fill layers
  2. Do not apply chosen color (while gradient tool is active) to both fill color and inherent mask.

I agree with you, but if the devs disagree then there’s a documentation bug that needs to be addressed.

Maybe change the topic without the iPad in the title because it also applies to the desktop versions.

Done. Thanks for the hint, I did not check desktop
