Hi,

I've tried creating a new layer from selection as explained in this video but it doesn't work for me. I have the latest version of Affinity (2.4) for Mac.

Attached a photo of my interface prior to making a selection.

Hi @Alvaro64 and welcome to the forums.

It's easy as you think.

Make your selection. Switch to the move tool, than copy & paste.

Which part of selecting and then pasting as a new layer does not work?

MAC mini M4 | MacOS Sequoia 15.5 | 16 GB RAM | 256 GB SSD
AMD Ryzen 7 5700X | Sapphire Nitro+ RX 9060 XT 16 GB  | 32 GB DDR4 3200MHz | Windows 11 Pro 24H2 (26100.4351)

Windows 11 Pro on VMWare Virtual Machine (on Mac)
Affinity Suite V 2.6.3 & Beta 2.6 (latest)

Your image is an "Image" type layer which is kind of a "smart object". When you make a marquee selection and try to copy it, it can only copy the whole layer again.
To copy an actual pixel selection, you must first rasterize the selected layer (or a copy thereof).

MacBookAir 15": MacOS Sonoma > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // MacBookPro 15" mid-2012: MacOS El Capitan > Affinity v1 / MacOS Catalina > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // iPad 8th: iPadOS 18 > Affinity v2

Your layer is an "Image" layer. To make a selection with the current tool "Selection Brush" work on this layer you need to convert it to a "Pixel" layer first (right-click > "Rasterize").

• MacBookPro Retina 15" |  macOS 10.14.6  | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1
• iPad 10.Gen.  |  iOS 18.5.  |  Affinity V2.6
