Sonny Sonny
Sometimes, we have more layers/groups to markup/highlight. So, it could be great if the color tagging has more color (even user custom color) instead of current 7 colors.
fde101
It would be better to allow the user to define their own *named* tags, arbitrary in number and without the inherent limitations of color tags (limited number of them before they become difficult to tell apart even if an arbitrary number of them supported; even harder to tell apart for those with color blindness, etc.) Alfred
Return
But isn't the new "states" option not better used here? Where naming and regex are working in combo.

A nice feature to be sure, but named tags which are independent of the layer name would be preferable. Consider a language tag named "EN" for English. You don't want to pick up a "gardEN" image as being language-specific. There is too much potential for misreads unless you set off your chosen keywords with some kind of delimiter, which adds even more to the length of the name in a panel where users have already complained about the indentation of layers leading to truncation where the name does not fit within the width of the panel. User custom color is the best solution!

It is not a bad additional option, but named tags would be preferable to color tags, particularly since there are already colors for layer layers which may lead to confusion between the layer colors and the color tags. Named tags are not subject to color blindness or to having subtle shades making them difficult to differentiate. Consider: If you were not familiar with the program, would you know what the layer color was, and what the color tag was, based on seeing something like this in the layers panel? If you could customize the color tags, users may eventually start doing things like what I did here with the layer colors (which are the ones to the left of the thumbnails for anyone who does not know): You can only get so many colors in before you start resorting to things like that - not an issue with tags that have names instead. The one downside of named tags is that they would be too big to reasonably fit in the layers panel, so you maybe would just need a generic tag icon to show that there are tags, and provide the names of those tags in a tooltip or similar.
