Hussard64
I imported a Word document and try to setup the look&feel of the footnotes. I open the Notes window and when I try to adapt the rules the system start a not responding loop and the screen becomes gray and does not react anymore.... Impossible to modify something in the notes....frustrating. The system gives you back the control after 20-30 sec... The Notes window seems to be buggy. Do you experience the same ? MikeTO
While I don't read every post on this forum, I do read most of the footnote ones and I haven't heard of something like this happening before. Could you share a screen recording showing the steps leading up to the freeze? Martyn Folkes
I have the same problem occasionally, but I'm using an old underpowered computer. Try closing Publisher and relaunching. Close any background programs. If that doesn't help, try restarting the computer. Hussard64
Dear Martyn, Txs for your hint but my computer is very powerful so I doubt that it will help but I will try. Regards, Frank
Hussard64
Dear Mike, I'll do but it is write simple as the problem directly occurs when I open the Notes window and start playing with the Rules settings. I'm busy now but will try to record as soon as I have some free time Regards, Frank MikeTO
Hussard64
As a former InDesign user, I find Publisher very unstable and unreliable. It is the second time I have a crash when I manage the footnotes. Now I was just modifying the leading override of one footnote and it crashes. I'm really disappointed. For so simple things I was not expecting such instability. I'm ready to give the dump for the development team. I'm using version 2.4. MikeTO
I use footnotes and sidenotes a lot and have never experienced this issue but I'm on macOS so It's possible it's a Windows-specific problem. Most bugs like this impact both platforms but sometimes a bug will be specific to the OS. I've never heard of a crash while changing leading override, for a footnote or any text. Do you have hardware acceleration enabled in Settings > Performance? If so, try turning that off, it's often the cause of crashes that are hard to explain. If that turns out to be it then you could look into your graphic card drivers if you wanted to re-enable it. If that's not it, then I suggest re-posting the crash into the Windows v2 bugs forum to get the proper attention for the issue. Hussard64
No, I don't have an accelerator. I will provide the dump if the development team asks me.

Just in case we're talking about apples and oranges, Hardware Acceleration is on by default unless you have turned it off already. I recommend turning it off. This feature uses your computer's graphic card to speed things up but it's the first thing Serif asks you to try turning off if you have crashes that nobody else is experiencing.
