I need your assistance with a file export issue I encountered. When attempting to export the file, I received an error message stating that the metadata could not be embedded. I am seeking your expertise to help me resolve this problem. Your guidance in identifying the cause and providing recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Hi @riorolannn and welcome to the forums,

Could you confirm:

  1. Which file format you are trying to export your file to and from which app?
  2. Whether the issue is with existing Metadata in the file or with Metadata you've added yourself within an Affinity App?
  3. Which version of the App you're using?

Are you able to upload the file in question so we can take a look along with a description of what Metadata, if any you've added to the file while in the Affinity App?

Also, what location are you exporting the file to? It is best to export to a folder on your local disk, that is not managed by any Cloud service (iCloud, Dropbox, etc.).

Thank you for your warm welcome and prompt response to my query. I appreciate your willingness to assist me in resolving the file export issue I encountered. To address your questions and provide further information:

File Format and App: I am trying to export the file from an Affinity App, specifically Affinity Designer, to the PDF format.

Metadata: The issue seems to be related to the existing Metadata in the file, as I haven't added any additional Metadata within the Affinity App.

App Version: I am currently using the latest version of Affinity Designer, which is version.

File Upload: Unfortunately, I am unable to upload the file in question due to privacy and confidentiality reasons. However, I can provide a detailed description of the Metadata I have encountered within the Affinity App.

The Metadata includes essential information such as document properties, author details, creation date, and keywords associated with the file. I have ensured that all the required Metadata fields are filled correctly within the Affinity App.

Regarding the export location, I have been attempting to export the file to a local folder on my disk, which is not managed by any Cloud service.

I hope the provided information gives you a clearer understanding of the issue. I would greatly appreciate any guidance or recommendations you can offer to help resolve this problem with exporting the file's metadata.

Once again, thank you for your support, and I look forward to your response

Hi @riorolannn,

Many thanks for the information you've kindly provided... I have a couple of additional questions...

Is the file in question a photograph containing camera metadata which you've then taken into Designer to add additional elements to or a file that started life in Publisher where information such as author, creation date and keywords can be added? I ask because Affinity Designer itself doesn't have an info or metadata panel.

Could you perhaps give a brief overview of your process from start to finish, i.e., are you starting with a blank Affinity Photo or Affinity Publisher document, bringing in or placing a photo containing camera metadata or adding things like keywords in Publisher before opening the file in Designer or is this a pure Affinity Designer file?

  1. Does your file contain graphics all created within Affinity apps or does it include third-party graphics in varying file formats?
  2. If it contains photos what is the source of the photos, e.g., do they come from a specific camera?
  3. Could you screenshot or let us know what the error message itself says when attempting to export the file?
  4. Which PDF preset or settings are you using when exporting your file?
  5. Does your Affinity Designer file include any FX?
  6. Does your Affinity Designer file include Bleed?
  7. Are you using a Canvas or Artboards in Affinity Designer?

You mention you're using the latest version of Designer but you've posted this in the V1 forum, does this mean you're using 1.10.8 or are you using version 2.3.0?

I appreciate you're not able to upload your file to a public forum but you can request a private Dropbox link from the team at Serif by replying to this post which would allow you to upload your file privately so their moderation and/or development team can take a look at possible causes, though they will be closed over the Christmas holidays so you may not receive a reply until the first week in January although Serif staff will still be monitoring the forum over this time but in a more limited capacity.

It's going to be extremely difficult to diagnose without someone seeing the file but any additional information you can provide to help build a picture would be extremely helpful.
