melonbird Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 I just upgraded to Affinity Photo 2. In V1, I had created some keyboard shortcuts. I can't figure out how to create them in V2 because the instructions I've found online are obviously for V1. The settings popup has changed a lot in V2. I can see how to add them for the few options listed in the menu, but I want to add a shortcut for flattening images. Quote
walt.farrell Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 For the most part you can only add shortcuts for items in the Menu, and the Shortcuts dialog is broken down like the Menu is. So the basic approach is to locate the function you want in the menu, and that tells you where to find it in Shortcuts. R C-R Posted November 14, 2023 Posted November 14, 2023 Did you try referring to https://affinity.help/photo2/en-US.lproj/pages/Workspace/customizingShortcuts.html and/or https://affinity.help/photo2/en-US.lproj/pages/Workspace/preferences.html for help with this? melonbird Posted November 14, 2023 Author Posted November 14, 2023 Thanks for detailing that, Walt. I've got it now. walt.farrell 1 Quote

Yes, I checked both of those among others. But step 3 on the first page is what was not making sense to me. Quote From the initial two pop-up menus, filter shortcuts by Persona and then by UI Element, respectively. There are dropdowns, not popups. The first dropdown didn't have an option for Persona. Reading what Walt said, it finally clicked for me that the second dropdown contained items corresponding with the Menu at the top, so I needed to leave the first dropdown on Photo, pick Document in the second, and then give Flatten a shortcut. FWIW, "dropdown" & "pop-up" are just two ways of describing the same kind of behavior for how (among others) these two menus open. "Pop-up" is a bit more generic because for some menus (although not those two) there may be no screen space for it to drop down so it might open upward or with some items above & others below where it opens. So I suppose "pop open" would be the most technically accurate description but pop up have become more or less the industry standard way of referring to this behavior. The first one should open in AP to show all of its seven (!) personas, as shown below: Two of them, Panorama & Astrophotography Stack, have no button on the Toolbar so it is easy to overlook that they are also personas with their own limited set of possible shortcuts, although why anybody would want to set any that only applied to one of them is beyond me. melonbird Posted November 14, 2023 Author Posted November 14, 2023 Hmm, okay. I've been using software since the 90s and always understood a pop-up and dropdown to be two very different things, so thanks for clarifying. Quote

I suppose technically they are different but here I don't think it should create much confusion -- as long as one understands that whether it is 'pop' or 'drop' there is a menu that opens when clicked on then the help should be enough to figure out how to use it. That said, there are many places where the help is not very helpful, so there is considerable room for improvement.
