Toolbar missing in Designer 2.2.1. App unusable.

Recommended Posts

Macbook Pro 2015 Monterey AND Mac Mini 2012 Catalina. Having worked previously, today there is no toolbar and no Mac controls after loading the programme. I have a copy, same version which has been running on another Mac Mini 2012 Catalina, which is fine, but I am reluctant to reload it in case I have the same problem. I have tried deleting the app and re-downloading it on the other machines, but without improvement.

Welcome, both to the Serif Affinity forums.

@Barrie Hope : I'm not sure what you mean by "no Mac controls". Lack of the Toolbar could be due to having View > Show Toolbar turned off in the application menu. A screenshot of what you're seeing in the complete application window might be useful.

@jim cuad: For you, too, a screenshot might be useful.

Both: do you have multiple monitors, and have you changed the monitor configuration? Possibly this bug is relevant: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/search/&tags=AF-417

Here are some screenshots, they don''t show much, but that's all I'm getting. As you can see, the toolbar view is on, and the multiple monitor question is not relevant. As I said in my original post, this happens on two different machines. The mac controls I refer to are the three coloured dots: Close, Reduce and Full Screen, usually available when the cursor is moved above the app. There are no controls at all on this screen.

There is someone else reporting this on the next post.

Hi @Barrie Hope,

Welcome to the Affinity Forums :)

I'm glad to hear you've been able to resolve this issue, just for our developers information - are you connecting an external monitor to your MBP?

Many thanks in advance!

___________

Welcome to the Affinity Forums also @jim cuad!

As above, can you please confirm if you are using an external monitor in conjunction with Affinity?

You should find that selecting Window > Zoom from the top menu restores the Affinity app display without the need to reset to default settings, should you still be experiencing this issue.

I hope this helps :)

Hi - no, I am not using an external monitor on the MBP. My setup is to use Designer on a Mac Mini with an Apple Cinema display, (obscure but good), and then instruction videos etc on the MBP. However, I sometimes want to run designer on the MBP, and it was on one of those occasions that I had the problem and couldn't load Designer properly. I then went to my other Mac Mini, which is our media player on the TV. I tried to load Designer on this and with the same result. Having binned the app and re-downloaded it, I was still in trouble. This puzzles me greatly because all systems were working fine a few hours before. I presume there is a setup file, saved on each machine, and it was this that was corrupted, or maybe I'd hit the wrong keys accidentally? But why did it happen simultaneously on both mac minis? Do you keep my setup at your end, and was that corrupted?

Thanks for confirming that for me :)

I can verify that this information is stored locally to your system and is specific to each device - so I must admit that I too am perplexed as to how this could have occurred simultaneously across multiple systems that do not use an external/additional monitors.

I do not believe that you personally have done anything incorrect to trigger this, as there's no such shortcuts built into the Affinity apps that should cause this behaviour to occur.

I'll be sure to update our development log regarding this issue with the information you've provided above, and should we have any further questions to help assist our team in resolving this issue, I will ask them here!

The issue "[macOS] App Window Disappears after disconnecting and re-connecting an external monitor between app sessions" (REF: AF-417) has been fixed by the developers in internal build "2.4.0.2211".
This fix should soon be available as a customer beta and is planned for inclusion in the next customer release.
Customer beta builds are announced here and you can participate by following these instructions.
If you still experience this problem once you are using that build version (or later) please reply to this thread including @Serif Info Bot to notify us.
