catlover
Hi, I've just started to try out the "stacks" feature. It seemes that, once the stack has been formed on the screen, further manipulation is limited, f.i. : opacity adjustment of the individual photos is not possible, nor is "Bring to front etc." ? Any explanation would be very much appreciated, thanks. Apart from that : Adding the files to a stack is rather cumbersome : the Finder-window opens up in front of the Stack-window and conssequently hides it. Moving either window is not possible. That means that for each file to add, you have to go to Add>Finder>pick the file wanted>click open>and start the entire process anew. Surely, drag & drop would be easier ? Should I post this question below to the "feature requests" part of the forum ? Thanks in advance, C.L.
Staff MEB Posted March 28, 2016 Staff Share Posted March 28, 2016 Hi catlover, You can still manipulate individual layers on a stack although in a limited way. Click on the small arrow on the left of the stack layer's thumbnail to expand it, then select any layer and drag it to another position to change their order. Clicking on the Move to Front icon in the main toolbar should also work. What's not possible is to change the opacity/blend modes (change pixels in general) since the goal of the stack itself is to process several similar images as a group to achieve certain goals like reducing noise, removing objects from a group of similar photos etc For general information about stacking please check Affinity Photo Help ▸ Stacking ▸ Image stacks There's also a few video tutorial available showing how to use them: - Stacking: Noise Reduction - Stacking: Object Removal - Stacking: Exposure Merging They can also be used for creative purposes. See: - Maximum Stacking - Stacking: Long Exposure Simulation You can select/add multiple files at once from the New Stack dialog: click on the Add button to open the Finder window then press and hold ⌘ (cmd) and click the files you want to add. If they are contiguous select the first file and then ⇧ (shift)-click the last one to select them all.
