Unexpected Closure and Freezing Issue in Version 2.2 in Full-Screen Mode (Affinity Photo and Designer)

Hello everyone,

I recently updated to version 2.2 of both Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer and am encountering a specific issue in full-screen mode. Normally, when making changes and attempting to close the program, it prompts me to save any work done. However, in full-screen mode, when clicking to close, the program simply disappears as if it has been minimized. When trying to maximize it again using the icon, nothing happens.

Additionally, if I try to open a new Affinity file, the program also becomes unresponsive. The only solution so far has been to forcibly quit the program and restart it. This issue has been consistent across two different devices: a MacBook Pro with an Intel processor and a MacStudio with an M1 processor.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue or have a solution?

Thank you for the help!

I've duplicated the problem. I don't know if it's a new issue or not as I don't regularly use full screen mode so somebody else will have to chime in on that.

Your document isn't lost. You can restore it by activating Affinity again and then choosing Window > Toggle Full Screen. It might be a little finicky - I had to switch to another app and back again and then create a new document before I could choose Window > Toggle Full Screen again and regain control of that first document.

While reproducing the issue, I've run into more weirdness where I eventually got my window back but it became unresponsive to clicks. It was still possible to quit the app regularly though.

Doesn't happen with v1, and since I rarely use the full screen mode (I'm rather using multiple Spaces anyway), I didn't notice it with v2.0/2.1.

The issue "[MacOS] Closing the app window in Fullscreen mode hides the app window and causes the UI to lock out" (REF: AF-433) has been fixed by the developers in internal build "2.3.0.2165".
This fix should soon be available as a customer beta and is planned for inclusion in the next customer release.
Customer beta builds are announced here and you can participate by following these instructions.
If you still experience this problem once you are using that build version (or later) please reply to this thread including @Serif Info Bot to notify us.
