Highlighting (selecting) of text through Find and Replace

Recommended Posts

Is there a good reason why highlighting through Find and Replace is darker than manual highlighting? Especially on dark backgrounds the highlighting through Find and Replace is hard to see. See attached image. Bottom is manual highlighting

EDIT: Funny, if you use Find and Replace in Preview Mode the highlighting looks like manual highlighting and won't get darker by disabling Preview Mode.

I think you're using Windows but I'm not seeing this on macOS - the highlighting for Find is and identical shade to selecting text.

For me, on Windows:

  • on a white background the highlighting for Find is: image.png.4c4b8ca4c69cf7bc5f5841785d0d76f5.png

and manually selecting text gives this:  image.png.f2424cb70063ca4f06889003ed9bb780.png

  • on a random gray background, the highlighting for Find gives: Screenshot2023-09-21133558.png.7c4310d722c09de596126852e8377ef5.png

and manually selecting text gives this: image.png.2ef89f1a455d6795ef6963bb26504b9d.png

Oh this is just part of the 'what has focus' issue. On macOS with a document in the app window:

  • Double-click the word to select it - now it's blue
    • Deselect the text
  • Click in the Find field
  • Search for the word - it's blue again
    • Deselect the text
  • Double-click the word to select it - it's blue again
    • While it's selected
  • Click in the Find field - now it's grey - this isn't unique to Find, Publisher changes the highlight to grey when another window has focus. This is by design.
  • Search for another word - now that word is grey because the doc window still doesn't have focus
  • If you were able to give the document window focus without deselecting the text, it would turn back to blue

If you repeat this with a floated document window you'd be able to click on the doc window title bar to give it focus and then the grey text will change back to blue.

It looks like the document names which were listed in the Window menu in previous versions are no longer listed there so you can't choose the doc name from the menu to give it focus.

I am pretty sure my post was initially in the Feedback forum, so I was not taking this as a bug, but a request for improvement. I mean it is really hard to see, especially, when Find and Replace (clicking the result) does not jump to the found word / letter directly. Sometimes I have to zoom out to see the place I was searching for. Hmm, strange sentence, strange English. :D

The issue of clicking a search result and it not being visible in the document window - you need to scroll left or right to find it - is a known issue. It's obviously more of an issue with smaller screens.

2 x 27" is not soooo small.

Edit: This thread made quite a journey. Feedback -> Bugs -> Questions. :D
