AD2 IPad AND Macbook: Slice Names in Export Persona

Recommended Posts

This is latest published AD2 on iPadOS 16.6.1 (yesterday).

I have a document that I use as a template even though it’s not saved as a template, with 16 slices created from distinct layers.  Initially these slices take the name of the source layer.

I have noticed that changing a layer name in Designer Persona does not always propagate to the derivative slice - sometimes does, and sometimes does not, and its inconsistent within a single document.

I guess that’s a bug?

I have this behaviour on both iPad and MBP.

I see this if I have changed the Slice name (of the slice made from a layer) in the Export Persona, that Export Persona name will stick. I would think this is working by design, on purpose. I will just delete the slice and make it again and the name from the Layer in the Designer Persona will then work.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4
Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Ok, I just did a test on my iPad.  I started by deleting all the previous slices, recreated them from the source layers, save the file and then closed it.

Opened my test file from Files, changed layer names and checked slices in Export Persona - slice names did not update.

Is there any documentation of preconditions that enable this to work consistently?

Hi @LionelD,

As far as I'm aware, once a Slice has been created in the Export Persona, the name of the Slice will be derived from the current Layer name of the object.
If no layer name is set for the object, 'Slice#' will be used.

Once the Slice name has been set, I don't believe that it's expected for the Slice name to change, unless deleted and recreated - and this is the behaviour I'm experiencing here.

Are you able to provide an exact workflow in which the Slice name is automatically updating when changing the Layer name please? :)

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!
