Cannot type '+' or '_' in Artistic Text layer on any Affinity V2 Apps using external keyboard.

Reproducable - any attempt to type text with a '+' or '_' (underscore) fails when using an external keyboard.

Issue happens on any document new or existing.

A document sample will not show the issue.

iPad Pro 12.9 / iPadOS 16.6

 

Issue:  

Cannot type '+' or '_' in Artistic Text layer using any external keyboard.

 

Observations: 

I was typing in some text and I realised I could not get a '+' sign.  I tried all other standard visible character keys with and without Shift.   All keys produced a character except '+' and '_'.

 

I did some additional testing and discovered that the issue is with any external keyboard.   I like to type and use shortcut keys with a real keyboard so I use a Logitech bluetooth.   I tested an Anker bluetooth and a Logitech K120 USB wired keyboard using the Apple USB to Lightning adapter as well. 

 

None of the Affinity V2 apps will accept either the '+' key, or the '_' from any external keyboard for Artistic Text layers.    Apps all support keyboard shortcuts.   The on-screen keyboard does (of course) work for all characters.

 

The '+' key does work  using an external keyboard when the Layers panel is open (it changes blend mode).

I can confirm that, using the Magic Keyboard on my iPad.

I can also confirm that using the Apple Sheep keyboard… although, as it’s a dual language keyboard, if I switch to the Thai keyboard it will type + and _ .

Hi MackNNations,

Thanks for notifying us of this, I've added a bug report. As a temporary workaround, you can clear or reassign the blend mode shortcuts in the settings menu which will free up the ability to type these.
