Cutting text into logo

Recommended Posts

Is the SVG embedded, check the layers panel it may say embedded.

If it's embedded double click the layer to open the embedded document you can edit it from there or copy/paste into the first document.

Just open the SVG file the common way via "File -> Open..." intead of "File -> Place..." or dragging it into a document, and then perform your text xor operation.

If possible show both here as screenshots, then also with viewable UI tools and layer panels. Or attach the files, so somebody can take a look at these.

So here is how I solved the problem.  I downloaded Inkscape and installed. It took me awhile to get familiar with the interface as I have never used the program before. I then exported the text afdesign file to SVG.  I imported the SVG logo and text into Inkscape and did the Xor boolean cut.  I noticed that the text cut into the logo was only the original font size and wasn't including the expanded stroke I did in AD. I told Inkscape to autotrace the text and then did the cut again. Perfect!

Still not sure how to accomplish this in AD after spending hours trying.

Saved both text and logo as afdesign files and still no luck.

What should that bring (?), you need both logo and text in one and the same document as layers (text on top), so that you can then select both layers in the layers panel and then perform a geom. subtract operation.

I saved them as separate files and they came in as separate layers.

As I've already said before, show what you've done (as screenshots/screencasts and/or with the attached files you are struggling with) and then we can tell you how to do that (what you want) the right way. - So far we've probably been talking fruitlessly past one another, because if we can't visually see exactly where or what the overal problem is for someone during general handling then it's difficult to give you concrete advice on how to do it instead right!
