Layer Mask options not displaying in Layers Studio Panel

Recommended Posts

1. When attempting to load a new layer mask from the Layers Studio Panel, the mask options dialogue box does not display at all  - so only a simple mask layer [apparently]  is added to the layers panel when the "Mask" icon is selected

2. Subsequently, when attempting to use the Paint Brush tool to "in-paint" over an image using this mask layer with a "black" overlay does not happen.  Only the "white" option works.

I am running macOS 13.5.1 on an M2 Mac mini using Affinity Photo 2.1.1

That's not a bug. It was an intentional change in 2.1. On Mac you can use the Layer menu, or Opt+Click the Mask icon at the bottom of the Layers panel.

Unfortunately I'm not 100% certain what you mean by this.
In the screenshot provided I can see the mask thumbnail has a black paint stoke applied, seemingly indicating the Paint Brush Tool has worked as expected - though I do also note that your mask is currently clipped to the Curves Adjustment layer, meaning it will only be selectively masking the adjustment from the image and not the image itself.

Are you expecting the image to be masked, showing the transparent background behind it? If so, you'll need to move your mask from the Curves Adjustment layer.

If not, can you please provide a quick screen recording showing the issue with the Paint Brush and the mask for me?

If you're unsure how to take a screen recording, please check out our FAQ linked below -

Many thanks in advance!
