Solution for Designer taking up storage

Recommended Posts

iPad Storage Used Up By Affinity Designer
I am so grateful for any help that could be provided on this issue!
I have a lot of files on my Affinity Designer app (version 1.10.7) on my iPad Pro and I have recently run out of storage.

It says the app takes up 1.91 TB of storage however I only have 2.56 GB of storage on my iPad and 2 TB on the cloud which is shared with my family.
Keep in mind I have deleted all my other non essential apps and have barely any photos. Basically the only thing taking up storage on my iPad is Affinity Designer.

Is there a way I could save the files I have in a specific format with layers and is there another compatible app that takes up less space that I could then transfer them to and still be able to edit? Is there a different solution that would make sense? I’m stuck because I cannot even save any more files on my iPad to try transferring even if I knew how as I am out of storage.

I’m worried as right now if my iPad crashes or something happens to the app I think I would have no way of editing my files anymore as I only have them saved as TIFF files without layers.

I also recently found out the version of the Affinity Designer iPad app I have is no longer available in the App Store and a new app with a new subscription is now there (which I have not bought). So I’m not sure how that would affect this?

I would greatly appreciate any advice or solutions you have. Thank you so much

Are you Saving your files as .afdesign files, and if so, where do you Save them?

Or, are you leaving them on the application Home Page, which is a sandbox associated with the application?

Hi @Lalalife,

Welcome to the Affinity Forums & we're sorry to see you're having trouble.

This issue has been previously logged with our development team and I will be sure to 'bump' this with them now to bring it to their attention once again.

In the meantime, some users find that selecting the 'Offload App' option, then force restarting the iPad and finally reinstalling the app can clear some of this held data value.

Although this should retain all of your documents, brushes, assets etc - we'd recommend saving any open documents outside of the 'Affinity Designer' folder before trying this.

Equally, uninstalling the app completely and reinstalling it from the Purchases section of your Account in the iPad App Store should reset this value - however deleting the app will lose any unsaved documents, custom brushes, assets etc & any documents saved in the Affinity Designer folder - as iPadOS deletes this folder when the app is uninstalled.

I hope this helps.

The issue "[iOS] App retaining a lot of storage after closing files" (REF: AF-233) has been fixed by the developers in the latest beta build (2.6.0.2805). The fix is planned for inclusion in the next customer release.
Customer beta builds are announced here and you can participate by following these instructions.
If you still experience this problem once you are using that build version (or later) please reply to this thread including @Affinity Info Bot to notify us.
