How to refine mask on iPad?

Recommended Posts

On the iPad V2 version of Photo, I cannot find the equivalent of "Refine Mask" that is available on the desktop version when right-clicking on a mask.

As far as I can see, the iPad version only offers a "Refine selection" function, that can send the output to a mask. But that results in the creation of a new mask. What I want to do is editing/refining an existing mask.

Anyone who can help?

Hi @Milohosi,

Unfortunately I don't believe it's possible to return to the Refine Mask dialog for an existing mask on iPadOS, my apologies.

However, I am logging this as a requested improvement with the team now - as I certainly can see how the iPad version would benefit from this option.

I hope this clears things up :)

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!

As a workaround:

  1. create a selection from the existing mask,
  2. disable the mask (in case of mask layer), or use channels panel->fill to remove an inherent mask
  3. refine the selection
  4. create a new mask

As a workaround,

  1. create selection from mask
  2. deactivate the mask, or use channels panel to fill the mask
  3. refine the selection
  4. create a new mask from selection

That is indeed a good workaround. Thank you.
