Architectural scale Designer document import issue (Windows 11 and Mac OS)

Recommended Posts

Hi All,
I have weird image behavior when importing scaled Affinity Designer 2.0.4 documents in Publisher 2.1.1. This behavior is the same using Mac and PC versions (the latest OS builds as of this writing). Everything works fine and as expected using Publisher 2.0.4, but versions 2.1 and 2.1.1 exhibit this behavior. I still need to update Designer to 2.1.1, but I will wait until this issue gets resolved.

To clarify, I draw architectural elevations using Designer at 1:10 scale. I typically have three artboards in a Designer document and then import them into Publisher, and then from the Artboard dropdown menu in Publisher, I choose the artboard I would like to display on that page. The imported image fills the frame as expected.

The first behavior; I import the Designer document with a single artboard, and it appears in the image frame's upper left-hand corner. Page Box is set to "TrimBox," when I change that selection to another setting, I can't select any other option. In the Artboard dropdown, when I choose "Document," it centers the image.

The second behavior; is if the Designer document has more than one artboard, it does not scale down, and from what I can tell, it imports all artboards when just one is selected.

I've tried adjusting, sizing, etc., but it takes too much time considering the sheer volume of the assets I produce. I want to take advantage of the new features you are rolling out, but this stops my upgrade process.

You guys make great products, and I was happy to say goodbye to my 30-plus-year relationship with Adobe, but little bugs like this can grind things to a halt. I'll take rock-solid stability over any new feature, hands-down. I'm happy to supply any information you need to resolve this issue.

Thanks,
D.

Could we see some screenshots of what you're seeing, and a sample .afpub document and .afdesign document?

I tried creating something from your description, and I'm not seeing the problem. Or I've misunderstood something.

Hey Walt,

Also, both the  Publisher file and Designer files are generated from templates. I started these templates in version 1.0 and have been updating them as I go along. I've attached screenshots; I can send files directly to you but not post them in this forum. Let me know if you prefer this method.

Designer documents are at 1:10 architectural scale.

Image 01: Select the picture frame and replace the image.

Image 02: Import a single artboard Designer doc, the image in the upper left where it should fill the frame. The Artboard dropdown is set to the artboard.

Image 03: Import a single artboard Designer doc, the image in the center where it should fill the frame. The Artboard dropdown is set to the document.

Image 04: Import a multi-page Designer doc; the image is large, off the canvas, and can't be seen. The Artboard dropdown is set to the artboard.

Image 05: Import a multi-page Designer doc; the artboards are imported and centered within the frame. The Artboard dropdown is set to the document.

I hope this is helpful, and thank you for being helpful. Let me know if I can provide anything else.

Hi @Commander Taco,

I'll need to get this logged with the Developers, there is something about the artboard that seems to be causing the single artboard documents to load incorrectly into the frame.  If you Delete the artboard but keep the contents and then add the artboard again, the same file will then load into a picture frame fine.  It doesn't seem to be related to the scale set, as we've tried to recreate this from scratch with a Scale set, we can't.

That drop-down is showing a few options it shouldn't be, which is why nothing happens when you select them.  That is already logged with the Developers to resolve :)
