Alberto_Rainero Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 Hi, why if I open a .NEF (nikon) file in photoshop and in affinity do I have this difference? Thank you. Quote
walt.farrell Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 There are a number of possibilities. But that looks like a Panorama to me, not a NEF file, based on the Context Toolbar info. So it might help to have more explanation of your actual workflow. Also, for a start, what options do you have selected in the Develop Assistant Settings? The easiest way to find them is to click this icon in the Toolbar, and then click on Develop to see that set of settings: Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. v_kyr Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 Further, the Affinity Photo RAW converter part does not pre-apply automatically any settings here, like brightness/contrast/pre-sharpening ... etc., so it's default RAW (in your case NEF) conversion initially looks much more dark, flat and dull in contrast to what the Photoshop's ACR engine (and other RAW converters like LR, C1, DxO ...) do look initially here. What makes you say that, the .NEF file is shown as a 36.33 megapixel, 7360 px x 4912 px image which is consistent with the Nikon D800E so I'm pretty sure it's not a panorama... Right. This can somewhat be countered with several of the Develop Assistant options (Exposure Bias, Default Tone Curve), but only when using Open or New Batch Job from the File menu. But the Develop Assistant settings are not applied in other File menu scenarios, such as New Panorama, New Stack, New Focus Merge, or New HDR Merge. For those operations the individual files should usually be Opened and Developed, or run through New Batch Job, and then TIFF files generated from them. Then the TIFF files can be used in those operations instead of the RAW files.
