max1josef Posted June 22, 2023 Posted June 22, 2023 I sometimes have superscript numbers in headings, which appear as ordinary numbers in the table of contents. There is a workaround described in this this post, namely using superscript glyphs provided by the font in use. Unfortunately, most fonts have only glyphs for digits "1", "2" and "3". I suggest an option in (character) text style like "preserve this style in TOC". This would also allow, for example, partially italicised headings to appear as such in the table of contents. This is not an urgent necessity, but a nice to have option for the future. Quote
MikeTO Posted June 23, 2023 Posted June 23, 2023 +1 I've requested this before, too. It doesn't matter whether the ordinal is created with superscript or with a font that offers OpenType ordinals. It's more than just ordinals – most apps preserve local formatting for TOC entries so that if you have an italicized word such as a product name it will still be italicized in the TOC. I could see making this optional (perhaps "Preserve Character Formatting") but most apps don't give you an option because nobody would want to lose things like ordinals or italicized words. For now I suggest adding it to the list of things you need to fix manually before printing.
